Public Health Specialist / Implementation Scientist
SM Healthcare Placements is inviting applications from suitably qualified individuals for the position of Public Health Specialist / Implementation Scientist in Durban, Kwazulu Natal for an exciting role within an International NGO in the health care field.
An exciting opportunity available for two suitably qualified and experienced Implementation Scientists / Public Health Specialists to join the HIV-TB Treatment Research Programme.
These positions are based in Durban with travel required within KZN and to the North West Province.
The programme is geared toward Health Systems Strengthening (HSS) and capacitating Health Care Workers (HCWs) with a view to providing effective care and treatment to complicated HIV and HIV-TB co-infected patients in South Africa.
The overarching programme goal of the ACC is to strengthen capacity of the South African Department of Health’s Kwazulu Natal and Northwest Province to provide quality and sustainable clinical care for HIV-infected patients with complicated HIV and HIV/TB treatment management, including 2nd and 3rd line and other antiretroviral therapy. The trainers and mentors on the programme are academics from various universities.

The following are the qualifications, experience, knowledge and attributes requirements:
Education, Training and Experience
- Registered Clinician with Masters in Public Health or PhD or specialization in family medicine
- At least 5 years post community service experience, particularly in Health systems strengthening
- Programme management experience preferable
- Valid registration with HPCSA
- Experience in the field of HIV/AIDS and TB
- Scientific writing skills
- Computer literacy (MS office)
- Due to operational requirements, this position may sometimes require early and late weekday work as well as Saturday work.

Key performance areas
- Providing leadership and technical expertise in the ACC Training activities
- Participating, developing and delivering specialist public health training, focusing on monitoring and evaluation, within the ACC Training program
- Provision of specialist public health consultation and technical assistance for health systems strengthening
- Participating in research support, mentorship and training for evidence-based decision-making
- To assist in ACC project management
- Providing technical assistance Health Systems Strengthening activities and guide implementation of activities in the ACC programme
- Technical assistance in Training and capacity building of HCW’s in HIV/TB
- Provide liaison and maintain effective communication between all stakeholders
- To assist in the planning, writing and delivery of written and oral reports to funders and stakeholders
