Applications are invited for the above-mentioned position, forming part of the Technical team, to be based at Southern Canned Products (SCP) Pty Ltd, Kasselsvlei Industrial Park, Bellville South. The successful candidate will report to the Quality Manager.
Job responsibilities:
- Planning, organizing and performing (analytical inspection & testing) the necessary procedures on packaging materials, raw materials, ingredients, in-process batches and final products, recording the results and advising adjustments/status when applicable/necessary
- Assisting with creating, planning, organizing and maintenance of the necessary work instructions and procedures in order to assure quality and safe end products
- Supporting the establishment and improvement of minimum standard specifications for practices and procedures in order to assure quality and safe end products
- Assisting with trouble shooting and corrective action activities, including validation and verification activities
- Appointed duties of a HACCP Team Member and Pest Control Officer
- Staff training
- Internal auditing
- Laboratory Administration: e.g.
- Releasing of products and/or processes and issue of approved COA's
- Printing labels for final products
- Liaison with contacts (internal and external)
- Stock take
- Performing both delegated and non-delegated departmental activities
- Optimizing and driving lab efficiency
- Shift supervisor and liaison between lab and production
Job requirements:
- Minimum three – five years related work experience in the food and beverage industry
- Knowledge of basic analytical test methods
- Knowledge of basic microbiological test methods will be beneficial
- Knowledge of Good Laboratory Practice (GLP), Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP), Food Safety (e.g. HACCP) and Quality (e.g. ISO 9001) Management Systems
- Knowledge of typical work and laboratory procedures & practices
- Ability to exercise attention to detail, exercise good observations and organise and plan effectively
- Competence in the use of Microsoft Office Suite (MS Word, MS Excel (compulsory), etc.)
- SAP experience would be an advantage
- Good communication and sound interpersonal skills.
- Self-management skills
- Ability to work independently and under pressure
- Must be willing and able to work extended hours/overtime when required
- Must have reliable transport to and from work
- B.Tech Diploma/Degree in Food Technology/Analytical Chemistry
