About The Role
The Quality Control Technician role is a 6-month contract position based in Hammarsdale, Durban. This role involves preparing and analyzing samples, conducting taste panels, performing equipment calibration, and ensuring compliance with Good Laboratory Practices (GLP).
Key responsibilities
- Preparation of taste panels
- Collect samples from the chute, log them into the system, and update relevant trackers
- Prepare samples according to specified methods, create taste panel sheets, and set up panels
- Capture taste panel results in the system
- Keep a retention sample of each batch and ensure the system is updated with the sample's location
- Conduct analytical testing as specified for each item
- Perform calibration and verification of lab equipment
- Ensure adherence to Good Laboratory Practices (GLP)
- Approve items promptly once results are available
- Inspect sieve tailings and magnet tailings, capturing results in the system and addressing issues with the Operations team
- Send pre-shipment samples to customers when required
- Prepare samples for microbiological and other external lab tests, complete submission forms in SAP, and follow up on results
- Communicate clearly about materials that are out of specification and ensure proper handover between shifts
- Conduct internal audits as scheduled
- Perform daily Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) checks in the factory
- Replenish standards as needed
- Update R&D standards with approved production batches
- Dispense, label, and inform Quality Control
- Maintain detailed reports on all available trackers or systems
- Monitor batches in 09 status and oversee blending of batches when required
- Raise and close Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs)
- Degree in Food Technology, Biotechnology, or a related field.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Proficiency in SAP and other relevant software.
- Experience in a laboratory or quality control setting.
- Understanding of Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
