To provide specialised legal support on litigation and legislation issues, opinions and interpretation of legislation administered by the FSCA. The person appointed will report to the Departmental Head.
Requirements:
An LLB degree, with about 10 years continuous post admission experience. Extensive knowledge and experience in civil litigation practice including drafting court papers, legal documents, conducting legal research and in providing legal advice to clients. Experience in and knowledge of constitutional and/or administrative law. Experience in the regulation of the financial services industry and understanding of financial sector laws will be an advantage.
Key Performance Areas:
- Assist the Departmental Head with the handling of litigation matters by and against the FSCA including preparing for and appearing on behalf of the FSCA in matters before the Financial Services Tribunal;
- Assist the Departmental Head in providing advice to the FSCA with regard to the execution of its regulatory functions and duties;
- Prepare comprehensive briefs for external legal representatives;
- Provide high quality legal advice and opinions, which include a broad legal and regulatory practical approach
The candidate must demonstrate the following skills and attributes: High integrity; excellent judgment; skills necessary to deal with people at Executive and various other levels, and the ability to work in a multi-disciplinary and stressful environment.
