Sea View Hospital and Rehabilitation Center and Home is a 304-bed long term care facility located in Staten Island's lush Greenbelt. Serving the metropolitan area, it is easily accessible from all points by car and bus. Like many HHC facilities, Sea View has a long history. It opened its doors in 1913 as a sanitarium treating individuals suffering from the most feared disease of the time, tuberculosis. Today, the hospital is well-known for its long-term care brain injury unit, the first in New York State. Patients undergo intensive rehabilitation with the goals of restoring motor and cognitive functions and maximizing quality of life.

Job Description
Purpose of Position:
Under supervision, provides professional nursing care to patients/clients within an assigned unit Diagnoses and treats responses to actual or potential health problems by means of nursing methods and techniques such as case-finding, health teaching, health counseling and provision of care supportive to and restorative of life and well-being.
Minimum Qualifications
For individuals holding an unrestricted registered professional nursing license BEFORE July 1, 2020 in New York State, another state or United States territory:
- A valid New York State license and current registration to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State; and
- Valid and current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA).
- A valid New York State license and current registration to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State; and
- A Bachelors of Science degree in Nursing or higher (or other nursing degree, as identified by NYS
Philosophy Degree in Nursing or Doctor of Nursing Science) from an accredited college or university, registered with the NYSED; or
- Obtains a Bachelors of Science Degree in Nursing or higher, as described in a above, within ten (10) years of the date of initial licensure; and
- Valid and current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA).
All full-time new hires that are recent graduates or new to their specialties are automatically enrolled in our 12-month Nurse Residency Program to assist in the transition to professional nursing practice while delivering patient care in a clinical environment. The Nurse Residency Program features interactive sessions, special educational events, simulations, and group seminars on evidence-based best practices, decision-making, conflict-resolution, end-of-life care, health care quality, patient safety and more. Responsibilities
Examples of Typical Tasks:
- Identifies and discriminates between physical and psycho-social signs and symptoms. Selects and performs those therapeutic measures which are essential for effective execution of the nursing regimen for assigned patients/clients.
- Develops, implements and continuously evaluates the nursing regimen for assigned patients/clients.
- Records and maintains nursing care plans and progress notes on patients/clients to ensure continuity of care.
- Interprets and reports responses of patients/clients to appropriate members of the health team.
- Participates with interdisciplinary health team members to plan a comprehensive patient care program.
- Determines and assigns those components of the nursing regimen which may be carried out by allied nursing personnel.
- Provides teaching, guidance and direction to allied nursing personnel in rendering patient care.
- Participates in defining, implementing, maintaining and interpreting standards of nursing practice.
- Participates in departmental and interdisciplinary conferences pertaining to policies and procedures affecting nursing practice.
- Participates in determining conditions, resources and policies essential to the delivery of nursing care services.
- Participates in development and maintenance of a system of evaluation of nursing care, practices and procedures, including evaluation of nursing personnel.
- Interprets philosophy and objectives of agency and Nursing Department to patients/clients, families and other groups.
- Maintains professional competence through participation in continuing education and other appropriate learning experiences.
- Performs other professional nursing activities as delegated by nursing service administration.
