Our client, a Paediatric Specialist based in Pretoria is seeking a practice manager and nursing sister who is a resourceful, motivated, dynamic and active individual who will contribute to the mission, vision, and values of improving child health. They will be responsible for the efficient, effective and safe management of the Practice, and ensure the well-being of the patients, the doctor and staff.
Role Summary
- They will be responsible for assessing, developing, planning, implementing and recording the needs of patients and their parents or care-givers taking into account various different medical, social, cultural and family circumstances
- Being able to communicate appropriately is vital for this role and they will need to show empathy and sensitivity when speaking with the children and their parents or care-givers
Nursing services and patient care
- To adhere to the Guidelines for Good Practice in the Health Care Professions of the HPCSA
- To comply with all the relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, protocols and codes of conduct of our practice and SANC
- Assessment of urgency and severity of presenting problems by history-taking, either telephonically or face to face
- Assisting wherever possible with weighing and growth parameter measurements of patients
- Follow-up patient test results and communication with patients where appropriate
- Counselling, advising and providing information under my guidance
- Health screening
- Acting as a chaperone as required
- Ongoing health education and advice including health counselling to improve health and prevent disease
- Up to date knowledge of immunization programmes
- General interface between the patient and the various services that may be required to assist their well-being or recovery
- Responsible for the development of collaborative working relationships with other health care providers
- Writing referral letters and compiling patient reports and documentation as required
- Ensuring timeous referral document delivery to the relevant referred health care providers
- Ensuring monthly neonatal document delivery to the relevant gynaecologists
- Ensuring call rosters are accurate and delivered to the wards on time
- Capturing of all the patient billing information online for Medcore: ICD 10 codes etc. for them to submit the billing to the medical aids
- Organise, convene, attend, participate in and be responsible for the minutes of staff meetings
- Responsible for all the documentation regarding the policies and standard operating procedures of the practice and ensuring that these are up to date
General Management
- Continuous efforts to be made to stay current of any changes in the healthcare field that may impact the Practice. These changes include regulation changes as well as new technology that may enhance Practice operations
- Devise and review systems for operational efficiency and control
Be responsible for practice supplies including medical, administrative and kitchen supplies
Information Technology
- Responsible for systems administration and management of all aspects of software training, development, applications and integration
- Supervise and manage the Facebook page and webpage of the practice
- Ensure patient confidentiality
- Ensure that all social media information is accurate and up to date
- Supervise the preparation of the appointments book, searches, data recording, PC download and other upgrades as necessary
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office (including Excel, PowerPoint), internet and e-mail. Responsible for systems administration
- Personnel and Health & Safety Management
- Clinical Governance and Performance/Quality Management
- Relevant nursing qualification
- Registered with SANC as a Registered Nurse/Sister
- Minimum of 5 years nursing and medical experience is essential
- Previous paediatric nursing experience is beneficial but not essential
- Sound communication skills, with the capacity to communicate effectively with doctors, staff members, patients and other health care professional
- Fluent in English and Afrikaans essential
