Thungela focuses on exporting its thermal coal portfolio mainly to the Indian, Asian, Southeast Asian, Middle East and North African markets.
Job Description
The Group AS&Rs purpose is to optimize plant and equipment life-cycle performance to improve Group production performance. To achieve this, Group AS&R expectations for the global function are:
- Developing, maintaining and monitoring the asset management maintenance framework as well as executing actions that are set out
- Effectively communicating the strategy and plan as well as diving improvements
- Establishing asset maintenance maturities which includes performing audits and a whole of life approach to asset decision-making that is evidence based and value focused
- Keeping up to date with developments by attending conferences, seminars etc as well as relationship building and receiving input from technical sustainability on standards and specifications
- An asset management plan in place for critical plant and equipment as well as focusing on optimising equipment service levels and costs
- Effective people management that contributes to the broader business by working with leaders and teams in such a way that it optimises the overall business results
- Identifying opportunities of improved cost management, operational budgets and undertaking agreed projects while driving quality
- Supporting the development of Group sponsored and Business Unit sourced technical innovation ensuring intellectual property rights are reserved
Qualifications
- B Tech/ BSC in Engineering (NQF 7)
- Plc Safety Course A3 (advantageous)
- Registered as a professional Engineer with the ECSA (advantageous)
- 6- 8 years experience in Electrical/ Mechanical Engineering or related
- Extensive asset management experience
- Mining or operational experience would be advantageous
- Experience in Condition Monitoring systems and practices
- Experience in Reliability Engineering
- In depth understanding of relevant safety and mining legislation including: The Mine Health and Safety Act and Minerals and Energy Act
- An in-depth knowledge and understanding of technical engineering aspects such as OEMs and SABS standards
- good knowledge of machinery and equipment used on the relevant operations solid understanding of the broader mining business
- Understanding of engineering best practices and new technologies relating to engineering principles & processes
