Role, Purpose and Deliverables
The Safety Officer will develop, implements, and evaluate risk management policies and programs, train employees in occuptional health and safety procedures, monitor, audit the workplace and records, investigate incidents to ensures safe and healthy working conditions and compliance to health and safety legislation. The Safety Officer will:
- Ensure compliance with the Mine Health and Safety Act.
- Observe and enforce our own as well as the Client's required codes of practice', instructions, procedures, directives and permissions required
- Provide and maintain a working environment that is safe and without risk to the health of the employees
- Identify hazards and assess the related risks
- Report any contraventions and inspect working places and machinery at intervals prescribed by the Regulations
- To report any threat or potential threat to the safety or health of any employee to the person in immediate charge of the working place or machinery in question.
- Facilitate the investigation into any incident or accident and implementation of corrective measures
- Preparation, submission and obtain approval of Site Safety documentation (Packs)
- Keep records safe and available for inspections
- Co-ordinate and assist with conducting internal audits.
- PPE Management
- Management and co-ordination of Safety Related Compliance training
- Safety Meetings
- Legal Appointments
Qualifications and experience
Ideally, you will have a combination of the following exposure, competencies and qualifications required for success:
- Grade 12 / NCV4
- ND Safety Management / Bachelor's degree: Occupational Health, Safety and Environmental Management
- 5-8 Years Experience as a Safety Officer
- 3-5 Years’ Experience in a Construction Environment SMPP (Structural Steel, Mechanical, Piping and Plate)
- 3-5 Years’ Experience in a Mining Environment
Vacancies are available immediately; the successful incumbents need to commence duties ASAP. Appointments are subject to the applicant passing a medical fitness test and passing the induction training.
