Safety Officer
The Safety officer must ensure that the company conforms to all client specifications and applicable legislation and requirements and to establish and maintain a safety awareness culture amongst the employees and management.
Duties will include, but are not limited to:
- Safety inspections are conducted of the area responsible for to ensure that the company complies with client requirements and legislation.
- Assist with investigations in all reported incidents are done to determine the direct, sub- and underlying causes and the reporting to the relevant authorities.
- Regular analysis of safety statistics are performed to determine trends in shortcomings, poor performing areas and enable informed decisions.
- Monthly scheduled legal audits are conducted based on legislation and client instructions.
- Regular Safety meetings as requirement from client and legislation.
- Audit of training requirements as per client and legislative requirements.
- Continuous safety visibility is displayed by safety officers and management to ensure physical visibility.
- Continuous “Manage Safety by Walking About”; SLAM; STEP; VFL; etc. are done by safety officers and management to ensure physical visibility.
- Regular analysis of safety statistics are performed to determine trends in order to focus on shortcomings, poor performing areas and enable informed decisions.
Candidate Requirements:
- National Diploma in Safety Management.
- COMSOC 1 and COMSOC 2.
- Valid Code EB Driver’s License
- Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment and Control Training (HIRAC)
Experience/Skills:
- 3 Years’ mining safety experience.
- Computer literate: MS Word, Excel, Power-point, Projects.
- Presentation skills.
- Organizational skills.
- Sound decision making.
- Interpersonal skills.
- Effective time management.
- Assertive.
- Safety conscious mind-set
