Starke Ayres is the foremost African specialist and global supplier of premium vegetable, flower and lawn seed varieties both for commercial and home garden planting. The following position has become available for a Sales Assistant, based in Rosebank, Cape Town. This position is for a fixed period to assist where maternity leave is taken. The purpose of this role is to maximize the sales of the Companys nursery range of products through effective displays maintenance of sales areas and assistance to customers in a helpful and friendly manner, offering advise as and when required.
Responsibilities
- Provides excellent, professional customer service at all times, ensuring a positive shopping experience.
- Assists customers with purchases by advising or sourcing relevant advice from horticultural personnel.
- Loads customers trolleys with their purchase and guides them to the till points and assist the cashier with capturing the correct code/price of products.
- After payment, carefully loads purchases into the customers vehicle, ensuring that all trolleys are returned to the trolley areas as per seasonal operational requirements.
- Upsell and cross-sell to customers and informs them about promotions in order to maximise sales.
- Assists with the correct labelling of plants and packs them in their correct sales areas.
- Prepares areas for new stock.
- Ensures that sales areas are always kept neat and tidy and plants are effectively displayed.
- Assists with annual stock take.

- Responsible for maintenance of a demarcated area of the Nursery in a clean and tidy condition at all times
- Maintains all plants in the demarcated area in a clean, healthy, and saleable condition.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Grade 12 National Senior Certificate (Essential)
- A Diploma in Horticulture (essential)
- Nursery assistant experience for at least one year.
