This career opportunity is available at Santam Marine for an Underwriting Clerk, who will be based in Sandton.
What will make you successful in this role?
- Dealing with issuance of new policies/ policy maintenance/ renewal / any other policy related concerns.
- Assisting to resolve all administration queries within required timeframe and compliance requirements.
- Undertaking client follow-ups with unpaid premiums.
- Managing client expectation on expected turnaround times for submitted requests.
- Adhering to underwriting criteria and business unit requirements.
- Assisting in implementing solutions for improvement.
- Standing in for team members should they be absent or on leave during busy periods or absence of key resources, assisting where required.
- Achieve monthly key performance metrics and adherence to work force management.
- Any additional duties as assigned from Management.
- Matric/Grade 12
- FAIS Compliance and RE5 a preference
- Proven work experience in Marine (advantageous) policy administration and underwriting within the short-term insurance industry.
- Minimum of 5 years experience in Marine short-term insurance a preference.
- Knowledge of Reinsurance
- Basic understanding of insurance industry including the reinsurance market and the terminologies used.
- Understanding of policy wordings, specifically related to your Line of Business.
- Able to evaluate information from a variety of sources and solve problems.
- Good decision-making skills; able to consider the costs and benefits of various options and recommend the appropriate one as part of the referral process
- Good communication and interpersonal skills; comfortable with phone and face to face complex discussions with underwriters, brokers and any other relevant stakeholders.
- Deadline focused; able to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines and able to organise own workload effectively to prioritise and delegate to meet service standards.
- Competent user of Excel, Word, Outlook and other Microsoft platforms.
- Operationally efficient; able to follow all process requirements.
