SCADA Technician (m/f/d)

full time - unlimited

Your Task

Objectives

As the SCADA Technician (m/f/d), you will be responsible for managing and/or implementing the SCADA, networks and automation related maintenance and operations activities of PV plants in the South Africa.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Installation & commissioning of SCADA, communication networks and automation systems of the plant.
  • Ensure the efficient status of plants and control room network and security equipment by making use of appropriate monitoring tools and/or relying on dedicated specific suppliers.
  • Manage the IP addressing plan for his/her area of responsibility.
  • Apply software and firmware updates on SCADA systems and related equipment.
  • Gather, review and amend all related as built documentation
  • Provide troubleshooting and corrective maintenance activities in the abovementioned systems
  • Review existing processes and method statements and develop new ones, where needed, on the operation of the abovementioned system
  • Identify areas in the existing systems that need to be improved, plan and perform/oversee such improvements
  • Provide training on the operation of the SCADA, communication networks and automation systems to the site staff and the subcontractors
  • Provide expertise support to other plants within South Africa, as needed
  • Perform stand-by during weekends and public holidays (based on a roster)
  • Work in close cooperation with the SCADA Systems Specialist
Your Profile

Qualifications, Experience And Personal Attributes
  • National Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Computer Science, Automation or Mechatronics.
  • Minimum of 2 - 4 years experience in a medium/big-sized company, preferably with an Industrial Control Systems focus.
  • Technical Training in Electrical Engineering or IT / Communication Networks
  • Experience in working with IT / Communication Networks (TCP/IP, LAN, WAN, VLANs, VPN, RSTP, Fibre Optics)
  • Experience in working with industrial SCADA systems (including programming them)
  • Experience in working with Telecontrol Protocols (Modbus TCP/IP, Modbus RTU, IEC61850, DNP3)
  • Experience in the design, installation and troubleshooting of communication networks of industrial scale
  • Experience in Substation networks and controls will be considered a plus
  • Experience in the construction, commissioning or O&M of utility scale PV plants will be considered a plus
  • Experience in Switches and Firewalls devices will be considered an advantage.
  • Experience in working with central PV inverters and/or PV trackers will be considered a plus
  • Experience in working with Siemens WinCC will be considered a plus
  • Experience in working with Intouch Wonderware HMI and FS Gateway will be considered a plus
  • Computer literate MS Office, basic understanding of Virtual Machines/Virtualized platforms
  • Ability to remain in control and perform effectively under pressure
  • Good administrative and reporting skills
  • Prepared to work shifts/overtime when required
  • Prepared to travel to other PV Plants, within SA
  • Physically fit and able to work in extreme weather conditions
  • Fluent in English
  • Valid drivers license
Other Requirements and Preference
  • Applicant must be in possession of a South African Identity Document
  • Applicant must be a local resident (proof of address must be available at interview) or be willing to relocate.
