Job summary

This role reports to the Chief Digital and Information Officer (CDIO) and will be a member of the Information and Digital Directorate (IDD) senior leadership team, supporting the CDIO with the collective leadership of the Directorate.

As Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) you will support the safe and secure delivery of UK Foreign Policy and Development aims, playing your part in major global events. You will lead the FCDOs operational cyber security effort, working with a team of information management and cyber security professionals to provide support, advice, challenge, assurance and continual improvement to the Department on information and cyber risk and the protection of FCDOs data, infrastructure and assets both in the UK and our overseas network.

Shortlist

The panel will review applications in the sift meeting and select the shortlist.

Shortlisted candidates will have the opportunity to speak to Adrian Blundell CDIO prior to the final interview to learn more about the role and the organisation. Please note this is not part of the formal assessment process.

Two references will be taken up for shortlisted candidates in advance of final panel interviews.

Assessment

If you are shortlisted, you will be asked to take part in a Leadership Assessment, a Staff Engagement Exercise and a technical interview before your interview with the panel. This aims to provide insight to your leadership and staff engagement skills.

This assessment will not result in a pass or fail decision. Rather, it is designed to support the panels decision-making and highlight areas for the panel to explore further at interview.

The technical interview is a more in-depth discussion of your previous experience and professional competence in relation to the criteria set out in the vacancy description, key responsibilities and accountabilities and person specification. This will be led by Ian McCormack Deputy Director for Government Cyber Resilience within the UK National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC), part of GCHQ. A question to guide the discussion will be shared before the technical interview.

Full details of the assessment process will be made available to shortlisted candidates.

Feedback will only be provided if you attend an interview or assessment.

This role has a minimum assignment duration of 3 years. An assignment duration is the period of time a Senior Civil Servant is expected to remain in the same post to enable them to deliver on the agreed key business outcomes. The assignment duration also supports your career through building your depth of expertise.

As part of accepting this role you will be agreeing to the expected assignment duration set out above. This will not result in a contractual change to your terms and conditions.
