The role of a seamstress involves the cutting, stitching and alterations of garments, covers, straps and belts that are manufactured and used within the business. A seamstress needs to master the skills and acquire the knowledge to do the afore-mentioned, with very specific focus on quality and productivity.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Fit and study required articles.
- Sew articles using needles and thread or sewing machines.
- Work on various types of fabric including but not limited to cotton, lycra, waterproof fabric, D600 and vinyl.
- Measure parts of required articles.
- Make custom articles for devices.
- Remove stitching from articles without damaging the articles.
- Line up, cut and trim fabric using scissors or cutting machines.
- Use or create templates.
- Estimate number of pieces from a length of fabric.
- Carrying of fabric rolls from time to time.
- Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) and general housekeeping
Other Functions:
- Count stock (Stock-take).
- Dressing devices.
- Any other duties that may be allocated to you from time to time.

Educational/Job Profile Requirements
- Senior certificate or equivalent
- Significant work experience as a seamstress / seamster / upholsterer
- work experience in a high-volume manufacturing / assembly environment, preferably mobility devices
