Role Overview: A Secondary Plant Transmission and Distribution Engineer is responsible for the design, and implementation of secondary plant systems in transmission and distribution networks. This includes protection, control, and automation systems that ensure the reliable and efficient operation of electrical power systems.

Responsibilities:

• Zutari's Energy Unit in Cape Town/Tshwane is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer/Technologist to join the team and provide assistance and guidance on a range of projects relating to Transmission and Distribution.
• The candidate should have experience in detailed secondary plant design and commissioning in the utility and renewable energy projects in Africa.

• The candidate will also be responsible for building meaningful relationships with local and transactional clients across borders and closer to office

The suitable candidate will also need to have the following skills and requirements:

• Develop functional, concept and detailed designs for secondary plant systems for MV, HV and EHV systems, including specifications, protection schemes, control systems, and automation solutions.
• Proficiency in using engineering software tools for design and analysis (e.g., PowerFactory, ETAP, PSCAD).
• Strong understanding of protection schemes, relay coordination, and SCADA systems.
• Knowledge of industry standards and regulations (e.g., IEC, NRS).
• Providing input into the design of transmission and distribution substations
• Preparation of technical documentation used in the tender process
• Prepare technical drawings and specifications based on the clients requirements
• Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.

• Implement budget control and associated change control on contracts
• Assist in conducting risk analysis and reporting on contracts
• It would be advantageous to have experience with PV plant and Wind farm projects
• It would be advantageous to have experience with Protection coordination studies and implementation

Requirements

• Bachelors degree in or BTech in Electrical Engineering
• At least 5 years of relevant experience
• Professional registration or in the process of applying (candidate engineer)
• Experience in Transmission and Distribution related projects
• Experience in protection, control, metering and telecommunication designs in substations and power plants
• It would be advantageous to have experience with Ccommissioning experience in substations and power plants
