Kumba Iron Ore

We produce high-grade iron ore, the key component in steel widely used in construction and manufacturing across the world. Our activities include all aspects exploration; mining; processing and blending; shipping; marketing and selling. In South Africa, we have mining operations in the Northern Cape province, as well as a head office in Centurion, Gauteng, and a port operation in Saldanha Bay, Western Cape.

Job Description
  • Effective safety leadership and behaviour modelling for the project team, contractors and construction workforce
  • The development of an integrated plan (for the scope of work) incorporating all stakeholders and technical functions and in line with Anglo American standards
  • Set-up of required controls to ensure delivery against these standards and the objectives as defined in the project charter
  • Effective leadership of cross-functional teams in line with the Anglo American values
  • Transparent reporting of progress to stakeholders
  • Organizes the work into manageable activity clusters (phases)
  • Determines an effective approach to completing the work
  • Assists in preparing the project plan and obtain management approval
  • Creates a project charter with the team, including the definition of completion criteria
  • Determines project goals and priorities with management program manager and/or project sponsors
  • Assists in determining priorities among project activities
  • Assists in the effectively coordinating the activities of the team to meet project milestones
  • Proactively identifies changes in work scope and ensure appropriate planning measures are taken with internal and external clients to reassess and amend the scope of work requirement, budget, and timeline
  • Involves functional expertise and specialist staff in design reviews and key decisions
  • Assists in compiling a complete and accurate estimate of a project
  • Assists in managing the financial aspects of the project: budgeting, estimate to actual variance, capital project management, etc
  • Provides inputs when analyzing the actual performance against the plan and make adjustments consistent with plan objectives in the activities of the team to meet project milestones
  • Manages relationships with project stakeholders (internal and external clients)
  • Provides support in resolving issues related to client relations, governmental relations, project quality, and project risk and project safety
  • Provides support in overseeing the reporting activities of project employees and determining when to escalate issues
This role Section Manager Project Management at a Band 6 level reporting to the Programme Delivery Manager.

Qualifications
  • Relevant Degree Civil Engineering / Electrical Engineering/ Mechanical Engineering
  • Postgraduate qualification
  • Project Management Degree - Advantage
  • Safety Leadership Program Advantage
Experience:
  • At least 8-10 years' heavy industry project management experience
  • Experience in Infrastructure related projects
  • Managing external stakeholders
  • Leading multi-disciplinary teams
  • Significant exposure to SHE management of the construction environment
  • Significant commercial exposure of contract negotiations and contract conditions
  • Significant commercial exposure of dispute resolution
  • Mining industry experience
