James Howden Holdings, a Division of Howden Africa (Pty) Ltd is looking for an experienced Senior Applications Engineer to globalise Howden Mine Cooling and provide technical support to the global business units on Mine Cooling Applications.
What needs to be done?
- Business Development: Globalize Howden Mine Cooling and Business Development. Continuously develop and improve strategies for the Global Mine Cooling to increase its offerings to the industry. Ensure sustainable growth within a captive market.
- Sales, Proposals and Tendering: Responsible for efficient management and preparation of the tender/ proposal process (client enquiry, risks, project risk, review meetings, contracts, commercial terms and conditions, costing, cash-flow, and submission of documents) to be accomplished in line with client specifications, international codes and in accordance with Howden standards. Develop highly complex mine cooling design concepts that comply with customer specifications, performance requirements and local design and safety standards specific to the end location. Build and maintain close contact with key global customers to identify possible problem areas which allow for enhancement opportunities thereby promoting sales and thus ensuring sustainable growth.
- Mine Cooling Training and Mentorship: Lead and mentor global business unit engineering staff, and provide guidance and strategic support to the global mining team. Ensure that the global business unit engineering resources are well trained, mentored and up to date with the latest technology and design standards thereby providing a professional engineering service adequate to sustain the companys core business.
- Technical Design and Engineering: Process and Mechanical Engineering Design of Mine Cooling Systems. Design and generate Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams. Generating process descriptions, control philosophies and functional design specifications. Detail design of water reticulation systems (hydraulic calculations, mechanical design, pump selection). Refrigeration System Design and detailed design calculations (Ammonia and Freon). Commissioning of new plants to ensure it meets customer expectations and conducted in accordance with an agreed timeframe. Develop and manage new mine cooling products. Co-ordinate with global multi-disciplinary engineering teams to execute design packages. Present technical papers at International mine ventilation conferences. Present and conduct technical workshops with clients and consultants.
- Adhere to Howden/customer/statutory procedures, instructions, quality and safety standards.
- Adhere to Sarbanes Oxley and AX controls
- BSc Degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering.
- 5-10 years experience in Mine Cooling and Refrigeration design
- Must have strong background and knowledge of mine cooling, refrigeration and ventilation system design.
- Experience as a Mine Cooling Applications Specialist will be an added advantage.
- Must have strong knowledge of thermodynamic principles with mass and energy balance calculations
- Good understanding of mine environmental control.
- Extensive international experience and exposure in high value Turnkey multi-disciplinary projects
- Familiar with international standards, codes and specifications such as ASME, API, TEMA, PED, ASHRAE, EN and ISO will be an advantage.
- Knowledge of refrigeration, cooling and heat transfer calculations.
- Above average communication skills spoken and written.
