Objectives
Reporting to the Head of Business Development, the objective of this role is to consolidate JUWIs position as a leader in the Development, Engineering, Procurement and Construction of PV and PV + BESS + Wind projects in South Africa and the African Continent. This requires the development, negotiation and closing of contracts for both government (REIPPPP) and private PPA opportunities. For projects on mines, the Senior EPC Commercial Manager will work closely with the Head of Sales Hybrid SSA. The successful candidate will bring proven experience in and a passion for negotiating and closing deals. The position will enjoy internal support from technical, financial, legal, supply chain, EPC Project Management, HR and quality teams.
Primary Responsibilities
- Leading role in structuring, negotiation and closure of sales agreements such as EPC and O&M contracts, guarantee packages and related agreements such as co-operation agreements, development agreements, share sale agreements, MOUs, LOIs or similar.
- Intimate understanding and control of JUWIs Cost Calculation Methodology, and Heads of Terms Guidelines
- Familiarity with JUWI OEM and subcontractor Heads of Terms and ability to pass through EPC obligations to suppliers
- Competitor and market awareness with a focus on contract terms and structures.
- Experience with and/or understanding of the mining industry will be a major advantage
- All aspects of the deal execution process, including structuring, negotiations and finalization of all project and financing agreements
- Working competence with JUWI Stages Gates process
- A working competence with the various financial models necessary for JUWIs business models
- Develop an understanding of the competitive position of wind, solar and storage technologies vs fossil powered options to inform whether to compete or collaborate as appropriate
- Proven track record of closing deals for utility-scale energy projects or similar
- Proven track record of negotiating and closing EPC, O&M, co-operation, project development, share sale or related agreements.
- Suitable Bachelors or masters degree
- Working knowledge of and understanding of FIDIC- and other EPC contract forms and the relationships between the technical, commercial and legal parameters
- Identification, mitigation and management of key contractual risks to JUWI and its counterparties.
- Strong commercial mindset with proven contract management and contract fulfilment track record
- Solid knowledge of Project and Corporate Finance concepts
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize competing time demands
- Strong and proven project management experience
- At least 5 years of work experience in the South African Renewable Energy Project Development and/or EPC Sales sector
- Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills
- Strong understanding of the renewable energy and mining industry, its drivers, KPIs and decision processes
- Understanding of and ideally experience working in or with the mining sector.
- Strong existing network in the South African renewable energy sector
- Excellent oral and written communication
- Fluency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat.
- Innovative/problem-solving approach
- Experience working for an IPP, energy off taker or lender to energy or mining projects
- Financial modelling experience
- Experience with CRM/Sales Tools
- Understanding of utility regulatory environment,
- Ability to travel to clients, project sites and JUWI headquarters in Germany when required.
