Job Description

This role will report to the Financial Manager within the Cluster Consolidation Team in Old Mutual Wealths Finance team. The Senior Financial Accountant will provide support to the Financial Manager and coach and guide the financial accountant and assistant financial accountant in the team.

The role requires an individual that enjoys engaging with various stakeholders across the Organisation on various segment matters, co-ordinating with stakeholders to achieve desired outcomes, drive reporting timelines of financial results, and execute on the business strategy, while managing governance and compliance at an operational level.

While the role primarily focusses on the consolidation of the Wealth Segment financial results, business plans, strategies and related activities, the senior financial accountant also have financial management responsibilities for the companies managed at the segment level.

This position is individually accountable for achieving results through others, over periods of three months to one year.

Key responsibilities will include amongst others the following:

At the Segment Level:
  • Responsible for the delivery of the Wealth Segment consolidated financial reporting, results, and business plan, including the capital plan for the segment.
  • Engaging and coordinating with the various stakeholders on the segment statutory company audits, data governance and financial controls, and risk policies.
  • Ensuring that the Wealth Businesses are adequately funded, solvent and liquid.
  • Provide insights and initiatives to improve the Wealth Segments return on capital.
  • Provide insights and support for the implementation of new business ventures and capital transactions.
  • Financial valuation and analysis.
  • Provide technical accounting opinions on IFRS matters relating to the Wealth segment.
  • Generates internal management reports.
  • Drives processes to improve efficiencies within the Business.
  • Completion / assistance with ad-hoc tasks, providing input into projects or analysis of the broader business or Finance teams.
  • Provides insights and support the implementation of Group and Wealth Segment initiatives within the Business.
At the Company Level:
  • Managing the financial operations and financial management. This includes timely financial reporting, taxation, legal, risk, compliance of statutory companies.
  • Managing the audits of the statutory companies.
  • Develops, reports on, and interprets cost drivers, key performance measures, and benchmarks.
  • Managing the relationship, reporting requirements, and oversight of our independent financial advisory businesses, external subsidiary and associate company.
  • Provides insights and commentary on financial results, implications and advises on corrective action to be taken.
  • Provides data and insight into preparation of the Business Plan.
  • Interacts with business managers on financial outcomes, expense trends, etc.
  • Accountable for governance and compliance at an operational level.
  • Analyses and reports on variances.
  • Maintains suitable financial control environment.

  • Ensure effective talent management through robust succession planning.

  • Enhance and improve team and group collaboration efforts.
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience required:
  • Chartered Accountant with strong IFRS knowledge.
  • 2 or more years post articles experience.
  • Oracle and HFM experience are desirable.
  • Intermediate MS Office skills required, PowerBi skills is desirable.
  • Demonstrates an aptitude to various IT applications and platforms.
  • Ability to work with complex financial data sets.
  • Strong work ethic, initiative-taking and demonstrable high standards of achievement.
  • Strong people skills and ability to work in diverse teams, independently and across teams and functions.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with multiple priorities and deliveries with tight deadlines.
