NORTH-WEST UNIVERSITY (POTCHEFSTROOM CAMPUS) FACULTY OF HUMANITIES SCHOOL OF MUSIC POSITION NUMBER: P000784 VACANCY: LECTURER / SENIOR LECTURER / ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR IN MUSIC EDUCATION PEROMNES GRADE: A8/A7/A6 EMPLOYMENT TYPE: PERMANENT PURPOSE OF THE POSITION The NWU School of Music (Potchefstroom Campus) seeks to appoint one new academic staff member to assume teaching, research, and community engagement responsibilities.
Job Description
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teaching and Learning:.
- Teach music education and certain community music modules in all programmes, including the facilitation of musical stage productions and community music projects.
- Collaborate and build effective relationships for successful model delivery.
- Provide supervision at undergraduate, masters and doctoral level (where applicable).
- Research in any area of the discipline
- Contribute to the vision and mission of the MASARA research entity.
- Perform administrative tasks, including serving on committees.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR
- A minimum of 5 years specialist, lecturing and research experience in Music Education at a higher education level.
- A minimum of 4 years experience in teaching music in schools.
- Completed postgraduate supervision of masters and doctoral students.
- An established research profile in the discipline.
- An NRF rating.
- A minimum of 3 years specialist, lecturing and research experience in Music Education at a higher education level.
- A minimum of 3 years experience teaching music in schools.
- Completed postgraduate supervision of masters students.
- An emerging research profile in the discipline.
- A minimum of 1 year specialist, lecturing and research experience in Music Education at a higher education level.
- A minimum of 2 years experience teaching music in schools.
- Research experience in Music Education on a higher education level.
- Professional knowledge of Music Education theories, teaching strategies, and research methodologies.
- Demonstrate basic skills in some of the following practical areas: keyboard, guitar, percussion, woodwind, improvisation and voice.
- Competencies in Music Educational stage production.
- Knowledge of the current school curriculum for music in all phases (CAPS).
- The ability to teach community music modules as is needed in the subject group.
- Demonstrate experience in Community Music projects (recommendation).
- The ability to teach rudimentary music technology courses (recommendation).
- The ability to teach introduction to music research courses (recommendation).
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- The ability to develop Music Education teaching-learning and research-innovation of the NWU value chain.
- The ability to present own accurate and assertive research on a variety of public platforms (conferences and publications).
- Demonstrate the ability to supervise postgraduate research.
