Job Summary
The purpose of this position is to assist the Legal COO in managing the daily operations of the Legal Function including Finance Management, Vendor Management, Strategy, Exco and committee reporting, HR, Scorecard, and all other operational issues raised by General Counsel within the Legal Function.

Key Accountabilities
Accountability: Business & Operational Management
- Act as key advisor to the General Counsel providing knowledgeable review and recommendations, ensuring that context, analysis and the views of the respective areas are collated, filtered and summarised in a concise manner
- Manage the internal budgeting processes and drive accurate budget interlock processes across functions and Pan African businesses
- Facilitation of Budgets and financial reports with Finance.
- Analyze and monitor financial performance including identifying opportunities for improvement and put corrective actions in place
- Manage Legal Function cost centres and mandates, monitor monthly cost centre management accounts in line with budgets
- Manage accounts payable (invoice processing), travel, staff expense, accounting operations and fixed assets processes, and resolve issues relating to the COUPA or supporting systems
- Manage FTE monitoring in context of cost, manage investment board processes for investment hires, manage budgets to meet future skills requirements of the business
- Work closely with administrative colleagues involved in financial and business processes, facilitate training for colleagues to ensure quick adoption of the latest organizational policies and effective execution of processes
- Manage strong relationships with the Finance Business Partner (BP) and the Finance Shared Service Africa Support Team (FSSA)
- Review transfer pricing arrangements are in place. (ETAs and SLAs).
- Provide Transfer pricing methodology and drivers
- Work closely with the People and Culture, Integrated Planning and Strategy functions to deliver effective budgets to ensure business can execute on plans
- Ensure that day-to-day operations run smoothly by coordinating efforts across departments.
- Create and put in place rules and processes to improve operational efficiency and effectiveness.
- Collaborate with the leadership team to establish and implementation the strategic goals and objectives
- Develop and suggest company strategies to improve growth and increased collaboration.
- Provide direction and leadership to team members.
- Encourage cooperation, collaboration, and employee growth to create a good work atmosphere.
- Maintain solid connections with essential stakeholders such as suppliers, and Manco members, team members and internal business partners.
- Provide guidance and oversight on EE status, skills development and preferential procurement spend
- Manage the relevant procurement processes, manage preferred supplier processes and implement controls to drive responsible spend behaviour in line with Absa policies
- Prepare the key themes, presentations and reviews for the General Counsel and assist with detailed content when required
- Evaluate all material and communication prior to it being reviewed by the General Counsel ensuring that context, analysis and the views of the respective areas are collated, filtered and summarised in a concise manner
- Ensure reporting requirements are met on time and to the highest quality
- Encourage frequent knowledge sharing between team members.
- Establish and maintain a succession plan for the team.
- Interview and recruit new members of the team, including determining appropriate compensation levels with input from Human Resources.
- Track the delivery of the team and achievements against the teams annual goals.
- Participate in the creation and implementation of Employee Opinion Survey (EOS) actions for the team.
- Proactively collaborate across different teams and geographies with in legal to break down silos
- NQF Level 6: B Degree
- B. Degree in Finance , Business Administration or equivalent qualification
- 7 Years experience in the Banking and/or Financial Services Industry
