Senior Manager: Project Development (Oil, Gas and Power)

Purpose Of The Role

To manage and drive (supported by an appropriate team and the organisation) the strategic project development, new business opportunities and enquiry responses for the Oil, Gas & Power Division. To engage on a technical and commercial manner with clients to understand their needs and develop solutions, supported by the Oil, Gas & Power engineering team.

This position is for the Senior Manager: Project Development in the Oil, Gas & Power Division, based in Cape Town, Western Cape.

Key Performance Areas
  • Lead the planning, execution, and delivery of complex opportunities from inception to contract award
  • Oversee multiple opportunities and tasks simultaneously, ensuring they meet quality standards, timelines, and budget constraints
  • Manage and mitigate opportunity risks and issues
  • Foster strong relationships with project developers, project finance providers, technology partners, clients, and cross-functional teams
  • Compile and manage the Oil, Gas & Power Divisions project and business development records
  • Monitor and ensure effective responses to enquiries and tenders from the market
  • Be part of the Oil, Gas & Power Divisions management team, working with the rest of the management team to develop and drive the Oil, Gas & Power Divisions strategy
  • Delegate and follow-up on deliverables during business and project development activities
  • As part of the management team, provide inputs and support execution of operational activities to ensure an effective team
  • B2B relationships and networking
  • Own and drive the process of tenders and proposals within the Oil, Gas & Power Division
  • Review for technical and commercial completeness all proposals or submissions, with the aim to be of high quality, competitive and prudent
  • Attend industry forums and conferences to broaden Lesedis network in the industrial, oil, gas and power space.
  • Drive continuous improvement in project development processes and methodologies
Qualifications
  • Eng or B.Sc. Chemical / Process / Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • MBA Master of Business Administration (AACSB, EQUIS, AMBA accreditation) will be advantageous
Experience
  • 15+ years engineering design, project management, project development and/or business development experience. A healthy combination of this experience is ideal.
  • 5+ years in a senior leadership role overseeing large-scale projects
  • Proven track record of successfully delivering complex, high-value projects
Knowledge
  • Conceptualisation of ideas and its conversion into feasible business opportunities
  • Knowledge of capital and financing structures to support and leverage technical solutions
  • Knowledge of project development and execution using Project Finance as preferred capital structure
  • Knowledge of financial modelling (corporate and project finance), lender risk perceptions and mitigations, free cash flow analysis and cost schedules
  • Knowledge of the project development life cycle, gate stages and project objectives from technical, economic and finance perspectives
  • Mastery in engineering principles technical design and execution experience throughout the entire project life cycle
  • Diverse knowledge of technology, equipment and process solutions for the Oil, Gas & Power and associated industries
  • Maintain relationships with existing Technology Partners, but also seek new collaboration opportunities
  • Ability to perform feasibility studies, risk assessments, techno-economic evaluations and trade-off analysis
  • Knowledge of business/project development environment, including political, economic and social impacts
  • Understanding marketing principles to support the Lesedi Marketing department in developing and implementing the Oil, Gas & Power Divisions marketing strategy
  • Knowledge of the business market in which the Division operates
  • Knowledge of commercial strategies influencing new business creation
  • Knowledge of competitors and their positioning
  • Able to engage in positioning activities for the Lesedi organisation through differentiation strategies in various environments
  • New business opportunities, proposal management and tender compilation
  • Develop, lead, manage and document responses to opportunities, enquiries and tenders
  • Grow, compile and maintain the Divisions business development pipeline list
  • Manage the Divisions proposals development process
  • Knowledge of B2B market dynamics and commercial gatekeepers
  • Knowledge of various EPC and turnkey contracting strategies, including risks and opportunities
  • Knowledge of industry regulations, policy making, master plans and economic outlook
  • Excellent written expressions and communication skills
