The Role
The successful candidate will play a crucial role in the development and execution of the client's mining projects in Central Africa.
The Responsibilities
- Lead and manage mechanical engineering projects from concept through execution for brownfield mining projects in Central Africa.
- Provide expertise in the design, installation, and maintenance of mechanical systems, particularly those involving copper extraction and processing.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including process engineers, civil engineers, and project managers to ensure project success.
- Conduct feasibility studies, risk assessments, and cost estimations for mechanical systems and equipment.
- Develop and review engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
- Oversee equipment procurement, vendor selection, and quality assurance.
- Monitor project progress, budget, and schedules, and take corrective actions as needed.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards and regulations.
- Mentor and provide guidance to junior engineers and project team members.
- Stay current with industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies.
The Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
- Minimum of 15 years of experience in mechanical engineering, with a strong background in mining projects.
- Previous experience working for mining EPCMs.
- Previous expat experience.
- Excellent project management skills with a proven track record of successfully leading projects to completion.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Willingness to travel regularly to project sites in Central Africa.
