Job Description
Strategy Development: Research, Insights and Business Planning
Support the business to identify business opportunities and/or challenges which might impact business strategies and financial performance, and provide timely intelligence with a view to inform decision making through:
- Market Scanning and Research:
- Embark on a continuous market scanning of the macro-economic, political, and legal and regulatory environments to help formulate scenarios which will impact the business
- Continuously monitor local and international financial and banking sectors to identify best practice
- Analyse business and consumer trends and activities to identify and inform business opportunities to ensure that Absa is well positioned to provide competitive and industry leading services
- Keep track of competitor activities, analyse financial statements, and perform competitive benchmarking and analysis
- Economic Analysis, Market Intelligence & Competitive Analysis:
- Conduct and facilitate strategic and market analytics to analyse changes, trends and developments and elevate key customer and business insights
- Support the business to build a network with experts, i.e. Economists, independent analysts, etc.
- Extract key intelligence and present findings to senior management on a monthly basis in a coherent and compelling manner to support their strategy definition and tactical change decision making
- Business Planning and Cascading:
- Support the Head of Business Performance and Strategy Execution in the translation of the Cluster strategy into the business unit strategy that respond to specific identified opportunities for strategic future proofing
- Facilitate the development of the business unit strategy by co-ordinating the planning process and preparation of Short- and Medium-Term Plans (STP/MTP) across the Business Heads, Regions, Finance, Change and Technology team, to align multi-functional strategies and objectives for sustainable integration of operational practice frameworks
- Identify and monitor the key initiatives that underpin the Physical Channels strategy and develop a strategic execution portfolio roadmap
- Collaborate with the Internal Communications team to effectively articulate, communicate and cascade the business strategy, goals and ambitions throughout the business to ensure alignment at all levels
Facilitate the execution of business strategies against the identified business opportunities and/or challenges to deliver against business and financial commitments, through:
- Business Management:
- Support the Governance process and deliberately identify opportunities to digitise, automate and implement business and governance processes for business and operational effectiveness
- Facilitate strategic correspondences through the central business unit mailbox and SharePoint
- Portfolio Management:
- Work with the Everyday Banking Change team to track the delivery, performance and impact of key tactical and strategic initiatives across the Physical Channels Change portfolio
- Ensure alignment on key initiatives, enablers, dependencies and interdependencies between functional areas within Physical Channels and the broader ecosystem
- Perform and/or manage other projects, tasks and assignments not stipulated on the job description as and when required, to drive business outcomes
- Monitoring and Business Reporting:
- Drive all strategic reporting requirements and present quality reports, findings and outcomes to senior management in a coherent, compelling and timely manner, via presentations, written reports, supporting tables, graphics and appendices
- Support the development and implementation of robust scorecards for measuring business performance financial and non-financial, and provide value adding feedback in respect of performance measures and objectives
- Track and monitor strategy execution and the balanced scorecard across the business unit, assess and highlight improvements / deteriorations in business performance, and flag any key risks and recommend mitigating actions through regular and timely updates to all relevant stakeholders
- Conduct performance analysis against benchmarks, baselines and targets, and prepare monthly performance reports with the support of the Business Performance and Finance teams
- Inspire teams (across geographies and functions) to work together to achieve the strategic vision by building, leading, managing and motivating high performing teams (including virtual teams) to high standards and excellence.
- Take responsibility for the effective management of stakeholders and the development of relationships with business leadership to ensure that timelines are met, and that business improvement recommendations are monitored and sustained
- Take responsibility for managing the expectations of stakeholders and partnering with them to provide ongoing advice in the implementation of business strategy
- Create a safe space where teams and colleagues feel comfortable to collaborate and share feedback, where they see necessary
- Be an advocate for change by adhering to the change management principles within the business unit
- Act as custodian of highly sensitive and confidential information
- Monitor the risk profile for the business unit and ensure resolution feedback to all relevant stakeholders
- Ensure that all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with regulatory requirements, Enterprise-Wide Risk Management Framework and internal Absa Policies and Policy Standards.
- Understand and manage risks and risk events (incidents) relevant to the role.
