The team is highly collaborative, organised as cross-functional squads with product, data engineering, data science and software engineering working in partnership to deliver value to our customers. We run 100% in AWS, with high levels of automation, infrastructure as code and increasing usage of serverless technologies.
As a Senior Software Engineer youll understand what good code looks like and have the ability to contribute to good architect software and systems. Youll also be able to take technical elements and translate them into a more relatable language for our non-technically minded stakeholders to ensure full engagement with and delivery of projects.
What you'll be doing:
- Help future proof the business and support growth by delivering excellent production ready, logical and pragmatic code in the following languages - PHP, Python, SQL, Java, Javascript, JS Frameworks e.g. Angular, React, Vue, AWS, Serverless
- Architect software and systems using well accepted design patterns to allow for iterative, autonomous development and future scaling
- Follow best-in-class agile processes
- Drive for use of accepted design patterns to allow for autonomous and iterative development and future scaling needs
- Use business and system domain knowledge to anticipate and minimise the cost of future change
- Manage stakeholder expectations and anticipate and communicate blockers, delays to mitigate risk in advance of issues arising
- Ensure testing techniques and frameworks are considered and champion improvements to achieve company quality goals more efficiently
- Help foster a security first mindset
- Troubleshoot and solve complex software issues to overcome obstacles, resolve blockers and complete tasks
- Communication and collaboration - Youll work closely with a range of technical and non-technical stakeholders to build trust based relationships and foster a culture of open collaboration, ensuring complex technical issues and findings can be easily translatable to both technical and non-technical audience
- Keep abreast of market conditions, trends and competitors to ensure the department/business remains leading edge and risk in mitigated
- Be a subject matter expert in relevant functional, industry and AnyVan related knowledge products/services/process
- Help drive continuous improvement across the technology department, through role modelling and leading on or championing department wide improvement initiatives
- Mentor and coach more junior team members
- Experience working across the stack with exposure to several of the following: PHP, Python, SQL, Java, Javascript, JS Frameworks e.g. Angular, React, Vue, AWS, Serverless
- Genuine passion for the end product and delivering outstanding customer solutions with pragmatic, logical and maintainable code
- Experience influencing key stakeholders (internally and externally) to consistently deliver against key projects
- An in-depth understanding of web development practices and technologies and tools. Exposure to e-commerce a bonus
- Familiar with software architecture patterns, database optimisations, infrastructure, scalability and deployment
- A broad understanding of the software development lifecycle and practical hands-on experience with continuous integration and continuous delivery & QA
- Experience working in and driving an Agile development environment
We support flexible and hybrid working wherever possible but some roles remain fully office based. Please note - Operational roles in our Contact Centre in Cape Town are fully office based. Where we can support it, typical working patterns would be 3 days in the office and 2 days from home. However, we appreciate everyones situation is unique and are open to conversations around the working patterns.
