Role purpose:
To research, Engineer, Design, build, test, deploy, evolve, and form a technology strategy for packet core, including automation and product design.
Your responsibilities will include:
All key accountabilities below are with engagement with all CVDi departments. The role cannot operate individually
Design PS Core technical policy and procedures for architecture and design considering all VF design principles, blueprints, guidelines, best practices, industry and supplier standards and best practises as well as standards such as 3GPP, ETSI, etc
Manage technology research, design and testing of new concepts and trials
Develop and strategize around new features sets, technology enablers on core.
Co-ordinate and lead technical PS Core design forums.
Co-ordinate and maintain technical PS Core network architecture diagrams
Evaluate PS Core architecture and recommend system improvements to other engineering departments and suppliers
Provide a technical consultancy service and high-level support to internal teams such as Network Management Group, Billing Services Group and Engineering divisions.
Technical reporting to Vodafone
Point of contact to international, products and services, wholesale, technology strategy and innovation, Security, and any other external team
The ideal candidate for role will have:
Technical / professional qualifications:
Matric (Essential)
A minimum 3-year degree/National diploma in Engineering, Computer Science or Electrical or equivalent qualification. (Essential)
A Minimum of 5 years of experience in a Telecommunications environment. (Essential)
At least 3 years experience in mobile packet core.
At least 3 years experience of GSM, GPRS/UMTS/LTE principles, and protocols (Essential).
A good knowledge and understanding of the Internet Protocol (IP)/NFV/SDN will be an added advantage
Knowledge of nb-iot.Mobile edge computing and future mobile data evolution such as 5G

Data systems (IPv4, IPv6 Firewalls, Routers, Switches, IPLCS, Policy Control, load balances, service platforms, DNS)
GSM/GPRS/UMTS/LTE/5G/WIFI protocols Telecommunication Industry and current government telecoms legislation as well as developments within ETSI/3GPP and ITU-T
