Senior Support Engineer

SENIOR SUPPORT ENGINEER KEY OBJECTIVES: • Installing and configuring network switching solutions, Voice-over-IP (VoIP) telephone systems, IP surveillance systems, storage, and network security appliances. • The role will be office and field based operating from our Johannesburg office. • Assisting account managers and customers with network designs. TASKS • Designing networking system configurations, directing network environment installations, commissioning, defining, and documenting configurations; • The design and implementation of new solutions and improving the resilience of the customer's network environment; • Maximising network performance by troubleshooting network problems, scheduling upgrades and collaborating with customer’s network architects on network optimization; • Undertaking data network fault investigations in local and wide area environments, using information from multiple sources; • The support and administration of network security environments in line with end user’s IT security policy; • Updating job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining vendor technical knowledge; • Reporting network operational status by gathering, prioritising information and managing projects; • Upgrading data network equipment to latest stable firmware releases; • The configuration of routing and switching equipment; • The configuration of hosted IP voice services; • The configuration of firewalls and security appliances; • Remote support of on-site engineers and end users/customers during installation; • Remote troubleshooting and fault finding if issues occur upon initial installation; • Capacity management and audit of IP addressing and hosted devices within customer/ end-user environment; • Liaising with project management team and service desk / help desk administration on a regular basis; PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES • Hardworking and willing to learn • Punctual and reliable • Ability to work unsupervised • Good client liaison and communication skills • Attention to detail MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: • Grade 12 or technical N6, A+, N+ • Knowledge of networking, VLAN, IP telephony, storage and surveillance software. • Networking industry standard qualifications • Work overtime and away from home at times • Medically fit • Own vehicle and drivers licence • Knowledge of Extreme/Enterasys technologies, HP networking, Mitel, Netgear, Cyberoam, Sophos, Aruba.
