Responsibilities:
Developing an Integrated SHEQ Management System:
- Assist the National SHEQ Manager in developing and maintaining the companys integrated SHEQ management system, in line with ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and ISO 9001 accreditations.
- Effectively engage with department heads in the region for a coherent and adaptable SHEQ system at all levels.
- Institute and maintain a SHEQ management system, in line with ISO-compliant integrated management systems (ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and ISO 9001).
- Ensure all sites are appropriately licensed with the relevant government bodies from national, provincial, and local authorities.
- Monitor and track compliance with the SHEQ system, both internally and externally concerning our suppliers and contractors.
- Identify non-conformances and implement appropriate measures to address issues.
- Ensure all incidents, accidents, near misses, and unsafe acts are reported, investigated, and preventative actions are implemented.
- Maintain an updated hazard and impact/risk register as part of an integrated HIRA.
- Address high-risk areas with management.
- Undertake HIRAs when applicable and record to prevent and mitigate identified risks.
- Communicate with the Managing Director and all department heads regarding SHEQ management.
- Provide communication and support to management regarding SHEQ policies, continuous improvement plans, and procedures.
- Lead environmental and other SHEQ awareness modules in employee induction sessions.
- Develop and write SOPs and work instructions when required.
- Ensure effective document and data control.
- Maintain current and relevant safety files for commercial sites.
- Conduct client site inspections within the Western Cape region.
- Report and record all IODs and first aid cases (assist HR with relevant documentation).
- Investigate all incidents and accidents, ensuring preventative and mitigation measures are implemented.
- Conduct internal audits for sites, ensuring matters are closed out and communicating effectively with management on audit findings.
- Ensure all legal appointments are signed and current.
- Plan and assist with emergency evacuation drills and record outcomes.
- Schedule training for SHEQ-related functions, ensuring training is kept valid and current.
- Compile consolidated SHEQ month-end reports.
Certifications:
- ISO 14001, 45001, 9001 qualifications (advantageous)
- Auditing and Training qualifications (advantageous)
- Minimum 3 years of working experience in a similar role
- Thorough working knowledge of South African HSE Legislation
- Previous experience with environmental permits and licensing (advantageous)
- High proficiency in Microsoft Office is essential
- Excellent people management skills (persuader, influencer, and negotiator)
