Working under the direction of program managers and partners, the successful candidate will work on interesting site investigation and remediation projects throughout the region, with increasing responsibility for task/project management duties. RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Development of projects involving site investigation and remediation of soil, groundwater, sediments, and free-phase product for clients with complex technical/regulatory issues in companies of different sectors.
- Plan and oversee subcontractors and fieldwork including sampling, drilling, well installation, soil, groundwater and free-phase product assessment, vapor intrusion assessment, remedial pilot tests and remedial system construction oversight.
- Design and negotiate remedial solutions for contaminated soil and ground water, using innovative and emerging remedial treatment technologies as well as traditional systems.
- Supporting on managing multiple projects within clients scope/budget/schedule expectations and ensure quality standards on project deliverables.
- Prepare technical reports;
- Maintain client relationships that generate repeat business;
- Build strong collaborative relationships with ERM employees, clients, and subcontractors.
- Be a health and safety champion for the Durban team; and
- Mentor field consultants in the Durban team.
- Bachelors or Masters Degree in engineering, hydrogeology and/or geology.
- Ability to work independently but also as part of a team.
- Effective written/verbal communication and organization/analytical skills; experience recording/writing detailed technical data and reports.
- 3-5 years of experience working on contaminated land projects and groundwater monitoring projects preferably for Oil and Gas clients.
- Experience supervising subsurface clearance projects (i.e. GPR and CAT scanning), drilling and groundwater monitoring projects;
- Knowledge about environmental licensing, development of conceptual site models, risk assessment, waste management and generalist view of environmental processes are differentials
- Strong commitment to safety, including following established ERM Health and Safety protocols.
- Ability to succeed in a consulting pace, handling multiple project assignments, and maintaining flexibility, while meeting strict deadlines.
- Availability to conduct business travel and have valid drivers license (and willing to complete defensive driver training upon taking employment);
- Experience working on a soil and groundwater programme would be a PLUS ; and
- Being proactive, provide clear communication and feedback and self-motivated and a team player.
