Core Description

Responsible for driving and delivering value in the Fintech portfolio which entails Short-term Insurance space (third party). Responsible for profitability of products in the third-party insurance portfolio and maintaining close relationships with the market and stakeholders to ensure understanding and awareness of market needs. This includes identification of appropriate markets and development of effective marketing strategies and tactics for achieving on these strategies. Responsible for the financial and market growth performance of the specific product portfolio through the effective and efficient management of the elements of the marketing mix i.e. product, price, promotion, place and people. Responsible for Product Life Cycle (PLCM) from concept to retirement stage. Ongoing analysis and monitoring of performance, identification of performance gaps and the development and implementation of corrective actions. Execute the relevant strategy via a comprehensively mapped delivery plan and stakeholder mapping process, ensuring quality and timeous delivery of objectives. Tasks include, but are not limited to targeting, competitive positioning, analysis of external environment, aligning with technology, developing future product/ market roadmaps.

Job Responsibilities

Develop and Implement Business Plan and Product Strategy

Interpret Business Plan objectives, identify targets and define goals.

Develop integrated portfolio and product plans, including roadmap, revenue forecasts, go-to-market plans, risk and technology plans in support of the Business Plan.

Compile Implementation strategy and execution.

Develop and maintain partner relationships.

Analyse the Insurance and ICT environment, develop concepts and conduct marketing opportunity analysis.

Grow revenue

Launch new products.

Ensure that Telkom has the right short-term and long-term insurance and capabilities and solutions.

Continuous review of Telkom short-term and long-term insurance and product suite and help ensure that we stay relevant in the market place.

Develop Planning Assumptions and Market forecasts.

Align with Business Strategy and Business Plan objectives.

Enhance/ change existing products.

Establish product launch team, allocate responsibilities and target dates to team members.

Executed product plans and allocate responsibilities and target dates to team members.

Ensure execution of allocated tasks/ responsibilities and arrange progress review meetings, including operational readiness measured against quality standards.

Manage allocated products based on key performance matrix such as, but not limited to: revenue, sales, churn, spend, market growth, achieved margin vs. projected margin, actual performance vs business case projections, minimum required margin objectives, profit and loss per product.

Conceptualise ideas which are easy to implement, contributes towards the strategy of the organisation and plays to the strength of capabilities and reach.

Test and validate the delivery of a product by Engineering and IT through relevant test plans and readiness measurements.

Manage the portfolio measurement, tracking and feedback loop through production of reports

Obtain all relevant information, and draw up report schedules.

Produce and forward reports, either scheduled or ad-hoc to relevant stakeholders and management.

Obtain feedback/ approval regarding submitted reports.

Utilise a quality process to analyse and present data.

Contribute towards Telkom long-term & short-term planning

Develop product specific demand forecasts.

Validate forecast information received.

Coordinate forecast information with marketing support.

Receive capital and operational requirements information from partners which gets incorporated into planning.

Perform periodic industry benchmarking, as input to short term and long-term planning - including industry analysis, forecasted and predicted hype cycles and trends etc.

Map opportunities between technology capability and customer needs as input to product roadmaps as either innovator, leader, follower or reinforcer.

Manage budget for allocated product(s)/ service(s)

Prepare budgets and product forecasts and set up demand feedback channels.

As part of P & L management ensure effective communication and liaison with key role players such as, but not limited to: finance, sales, customer value management, networks, marketing, deal management, device management, public relations and communications, regulatory and legal through periodic and ad-hoc individual and group engagements related to allocated Products and Services.

Train and up-skill internal customers on product specific subjects Coordinate training content and programme with training group.

Conduct product management workshops to up-skill sales and support staff on new and existing products, features, enhancements etc.

Obtain feedback regarding training effectiveness, and use to enhance future training content and programmes.

  • NQF 6: 3 year Diploma/ National Diploma

Develop business case

Define business need, develop business case, follow relevant internal processes associated with commercial and technical requirements for approval, present business case/ submit to Commercial Review and/or Product and Pricing Council coordinating council.

Components of the business plan: market opportunity study, addressable market determination, projections and assumptions with rationale including sales numbers over minimum 3 years, revenue and margins, Capex and Opex costs, EBIT, ROI, deemed margins, marketing/ proposition messaging and chosen media, go-to-market plan.

Obtain buy-in from stakeholders.

Compile Management Documentation and Reporting

Compile strategies, business plans, management reports, documentation, and presentations.

Qualifications and Experience:
  • Qualification should preferably be in Commerce, Marketing, Project or Sales.
  • Post graduate qualification in Insurance or Risk management would be an added advantage.
  • Experience preferably in Insurance, Product Development/ Management, with at least 2 years having been at Management/ Specialist level.
