Solar Engineer

Responsibilities

• Be responsible for pre-bid and post-bid engineering, including coordinating and securing all required drawing/document approvals.
• Design solar PV systems (roof-top and ground mount) following applicable standards.
• Innovate and design suitable solutions, including but not limited to PV and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).
• Create electrical single-line diagrams, panel schedules, or connection diagrams for solar systems using design software (AutoCAD, SketchUp, Layout, Skelion, Shadow Analysis).
• Perform energy yield assessments and optimize overall design to achieve the lowest Levelized Cost of Electricity (LCOE).
• Prepare detailed and optimized Bill of Quantities (BOQ) and Bill of Materials (BOM).
• Conduct technical site visits and gather relevant data.
• Keep track of existing and upcoming technologies in the Solar PV space, including BESS, modules, inverters, and Mounting Systems (MMS).
• Provide technical support to business development, finance, procurement, and construction teams.
• Communicate and coordinate with senior management for approvals and implementation strategies.
• Represent the company with integrity and professionalism in all written and oral communications.

Requirements

• Educational Qualifications: BSc Engineering (Electrical), B.Eng Engineering (Electrical), or BTech Engineering (Electrical).
• Minimum 2 years of design and project engineering experience in Solar PV, working with EPC, Developers, or in a consulting environment for Commercial and Industrial (C&I) projects.
• Experience in utility-scale solar PV projects is a plus.
• Excellent English written and oral communication skills.
• Proficiency with PV design software such as PVSyst, Helioscope.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD or similar drafting software.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and MS Project.
• Ability to work independently, prioritize, organize, and multi-task effectively to meet deadlines.
• Available and willing to travel within South Africa and internationally as required.
• Experience in Medium Voltage distribution design is an advantage but not a requirement.
• Strong project management and teamwork skills.
• Ability to think outside the box, with occasional travel.
