Job Description: Special Education Teacher
Al Shams Centre for Students with Disabilities in Sharjah, UAE, offers a great opportunity for a Special Education Teacher. This is a full-time position and the teacher will develop and implement Individual Educational Plans (IEPs) or Individual Transitional Plans, after assessing the students enrolled in the educational or vocational programmes, provide education according to the curriculum, teach basic academic, life and/or vocational skills as well as provide feedback to the parents.
Qualification: The teacher must hold at least bachelor degree in special education or hold a primary education qualification with at least one year of experience in a special education facility.
Duties:
- Maintain accurate and complete student records, and prepare reports on children and activities, as required by law, policies, and administrative regulations.
- Teach socially acceptable behaviour, employing techniques such as behaviour modification and positive reinforcement.
- Prepare materials and classrooms for class activities.
- Establish and enforce rules for behaviour and policies and procedures to maintain order among students, guided by the educational psychologist
- Confer with parents, administrators, testing specialists and professionals to develop individual educational plans designed to promote students' educational, physical, and social development.
- Instruct through lectures, discussions, and demonstrations the lessons guided by the provided curriculum
- Employ special educational strategies and techniques during instruction to improve the development of sensory- and perceptual-motor skills, language, cognition, and memory
- Plan and conduct activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time that provides students with opportunities to observe, question, and investigate
- Teach personal development skills such as goal setting, independence, and self-advocacy
- Deliver and participate in in-services and workshops
- Attends meetings, such as faculty meetings, special education meetings and parent-teacher conferences
Desired Skills & Experience:
- Ability to obtain a professional license form Community Development Authority (CDA)
- At least two years’ experience as a special education teacher
- Bilingual candidates, Arabic – English, preferred
- Prior experience working with school-age population preferred
- Prior experience with Individual Educational Programmes (IEP’s).Company Description

Al Shams Centre for Students with Disabilities was founded in 2014 to meet the growing demand for high quality educational and therapeutic services for students with special needs and support for their families in Sharjah and the northern Emirates of the UAE.
Al Shams Centre will provide educational opportunities and therapeutic services for students with individual learning needs in a secure and nurturing environment in which they can learn, master challenges and develop their individuality and talents to achieve their full potential. This will be achieved through evaluations, diagnoses, individualized education plans and progress measurements. The students and young adults, aged 4-21 years, will be enrolled in the early intervention or junior educational programmes, which are further supported by specialized services, including speech, occupational and behavioural therapy. We are now licensed to provide the senior educational, pre- and vocational programmes and transitional services.
Al Shams Centre further offers assessments and individual Speech-Language, Occupational and Behavioural Therapy services for children in the community from 0-18 years.
