Help Duties

Selectee(s) will report to an assigned DOL office location on a regular basis and be eligible for telework as determined by agency policy. This is not a remote position. Offices are located in: Washington, DC; Dallas, TX; Boston, MA; New York, NY; Philadelphia, PA; Atlanta, GA; San Francisco, CA. For specific locations, see: DOL offices. Advertised salary reflects the pay range for the above locations. Upon selection, salary will be set in accordance with the selectee's assigned duty location.

Current DOL policy requires on-site work at least 5 days per pay period. This is not a remote work position. The selectee will report to an assigned DOL office location on a regular basis and is eligible for participation in telework as determined by management in accordance with DOL policy.

This position serves as the confidential Staff Assistant and key office administrative advisor to the Chief Information Officer (CIO) and Deputy Chief Information Officer (DCIO) of the OCIO and performs a variety of special and confidential assignments related to administrative and technical support.
  • Performs a variety of special and confidential assignment related to administrative and technical support.
  • Coordinates projects and tasks on behalf of the CIO and DCIO by ensuring priority actions and those of particular interest are executed throughout the organization.
  • Serves as a key member of the senior planning staff of OCIO, making substantial contributions to overall planning and program development and evaluation, operating policy, and internal and external coordination.
  • Provides expert advice, counsel, and balance to be achieved among OCIO management and the availability of resources.
  • Interfaces with individuals at all echelons of the organization, to include management throughout the Department.
  • Establishes and maintains positive working relationships with officials and colleagues at all levels within the Agency and individuals and/or organizations outside the agency who are involved in the issue/problem under consideration.
  • Regularly updates management and customers on the statuses of programs and annual changes or significant milestones impacting program accomplishments.
  • Plans a wide variety of complex management projects.
  • Undertakes special projects as assigned by the CIO and DCIO that are recurring and nonrecurring in nature in support of OCIO initiatives.
  • Analyze new or proposed regulations to determine impact on the OCIO program operations and suggest modifications, or draft edits as necessary, to policies, goals, or objectives.
  • Prepares and presents written and/or oral briefings to the CIO and DCIO and other principal officials on issues, findings, conclusions and recommendations for executive action.
  • Receives, reviews, and proofs all memorandums, letters, and documents requiring corrections or rewrites.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

You must meet the Specialized Experience to qualify for Staff Assistant, as described below.

For GS-13: Applicants must have 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level GS-12 in the Federal Service.

Specialized Experience is the experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform the duties of the position successfully, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level.

Qualifying specialized experience for GS-13 includes:
  • Experience in evaluating the content of new or modified policies and regulations to determine the impact upon the agency's programs and resources.
  • Experience in serving as the recognized technical authority for planning and evaluating complex management or program functions.
  • Experience in planning, organizing and directing a wide variety of highly diverse program and administrative activities in an effective manner or under tight deadlines.
