Help Duties
Selectee(s) will report to an assigned DOL office location on a regular basis and be eligible for telework as determined by agency policy. This is not a remote position. Offices are located in Washington, DC; Boston, MA; New York, NY; Philadelphia, PA; Atlanta, GA; Chicago, IL; Dallas, TX; San Francisco, CA. For specific locations, see: DOL offices. Advertised salary reflects the pay range for the above locations. Upon selection, salary will be set in accordance with the selectee's assigned duty location.
Major duties include but are not limited to:
- Provide technical support to end-users in the Department of Labor, including troubleshooting hardware and software issues, and resolving network connectivity problems.
- Install, configure, and maintain computer hardware and software, including operating systems, productivity software, and specialized applications.
- Monitor and maintain the security of computer systems and networks, including implementing security policies and procedures, and conducting regular security audits.
- Develop and maintain documentation for IT systems and procedures, including user manuals, technical specifications, and system diagrams.
- Collaborate with other IT professionals to design and implement new systems and technologies, and to improve existing systems and processes.
- Monitor and maintain system backups and disaster recovery procedures, including testing backup systems and restoring data in the event of a system failure.
- Participate in IT projects and initiatives, including planning, implementation, and testing, and provide technical expertise and support to project teams.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Conditions of Employment
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Must be at least 16 years old.
- Candidate required to obtain the necessary security/investigation level.
- Must be currently enrolled or accepted for enrollment pursuing a baccalaureate or graduate degree at least half-time.
- The entire duration of the Post-Secondary Student appointment constitutes a trial period.
- Upon completion of requirements for graduation and successful completion of the PSS program requirements, you may be eligible for non-competitive conversion, at the agency's discretion, to a career or career-conditional appointment.
Qualifications for the GS-07:
- Completion of 1 full academic year of graduate level education. (An academic year of graduate education is the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 academic year of full-time study, if not defined by school, then (18 semester or 27 quarter hours will be used.
- Completion of a Bachelor's Degree with Superior Academic Achievement (defined below)
Students may be non-competitively converted to a career or career-conditional appointment upon successful completion of an academic program; complete 640 hours of continuous employment; meet OPM qualifications for the position converted to; and meet time-in-grade requirements.
Education
Any applicant falsely claiming an academic degree from an accredited school will be subject to actions ranging from disqualification from federal employment to removal from federal service.

This position is inside the bargaining unit. If the duty location is within the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area, the position will be included in the Local 12, AFGE bargaining unit. If the duty location is outside the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area, the position will be included in the NCFLL bargaining unit.
Career Ladder Promotion GS-12 - There is no obligation to provide future promotions if you are selected. Promotions are dependent on your ability to perform the duties at a higher level, meet all the performance requirements, and supervisor's recommendation to the next grade.
