In this role, you will oversee the full scope of tax reporting and certain general accounting tasks within a fast-paced and multicultural environment. Working closely with internal and external stakeholders, you'll play a pivotal role in ensuring compliance with tax legislation and corporate governance standards, while driving strategic initiatives to support the growth of the business. Key Qualifications for the Tax and General Ledger Specialist:
- Bachelor's degree / Honours
- 3 - 5 years of relevant Tax experience
- Must hold an accreditation from a Tax or Accounting Association
- South African Tax experience - NB
- Company Tax experience (essential)
- Demonstrated track record of recent Tax calculation experience - NB
- In-depth knowledge of accounting and tax principles
- Transfer pricing knowledge (advantageous)
- Experience in the processing of work and not just in the reviewing process - NB
General Key Duties as the Tax and General Ledger Specialist include but are not limited to:
- Develop, implement, and maintain internal processes and SOX procedures for corporate governance and compliance.
- Monitor procedural activities to ensure adherence to stipulated processes consistently.
- Coordinate with internal and external auditors to provide accurate information and address deficiencies promptly.
- Foster strong relationships with suppliers, professional bodies, and internal stakeholders to resolve queries professionally.
- Drive the execution of strategies to achieve departmental goals and objectives annually.
Taxation duties (70%):
- Administer tax records to comply with legislative requirements.
- Manage all aspects of tax operations including calculations, reporting, audits, and relationships with tax authorities.
- Ensure timely payment of all tax types and handle tax queries and submissions.
- Maintain tax computations for entities, stay updated on tax legislation changes, and identify tax planning opportunities.
- VAT knowledge and assist in resolving statutory queries and perform other ad hoc duties as needed.
- Prepare balance sheet reconciliations following corporate and Blackline guidelines.
- Ensure timely correction and clearance of reconciling items on the balance sheet.
- Maintain ongoing reconciliation of IFRS and US GAAP standards.
- Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of IFRS and related accounting principles.
- Maintain appropriate document filing and retention in compliance with company and statutory requirements.
- Prepare financial statements and relevant notes according to IFRS.
- Support internal and external audit requirements.
- Provide assistance for regulatory requirements and submissions.
General Ledger Management (30%):
- Prepare and process journals with supporting information.
- Ensure accounting entries adhere to IFRS and US GAAP standards.
- Accurately post transactions to the general ledger.
- Manage recurring journals effectively.
- Ensure precise posting of transactions and monthly accruals.
- Conduct expense variance analysis aligned with department practices.
- Maintain accurate accounting records reflecting business units' financial positions.
- Handle treasury and asset management responsibilities as required.
Policies and procedures:
- Proactively identify and address control deficiencies through root cause analysis and remediation.
- Assist with ad hoc requests and analysis.
- Develop solutions for various issues and challenges.
- Contribute to specific function projects as needed.
- Drive improvement initiatives within the finance department and maximize automation for daily activities.
