Job Description
- Location: Table View, Cape Town
- Starting Date: As soon as possible, however, negotiable
- Job Type: Full-time, permanent position
- Work Hours: As we are a response organisation and our visitor center is open 7 days a week, a typical work week of 8 hours a day will apply, covering a 40hour working week that will include weekends on rotation.
- Travel: Be willing and able to travel for short distances to and from schools and off-site venues.
- Remuneration: Subject to negotiation. Remuneration package commensurate with qualifications, experience, and SANCCOBs remuneration model.
As the Educator, you will need a clear understanding of SANCCOBs operations and its mission, vision and strategic objectives. You will be responsible to plan, coordinate and facilitate various educational programmes and events, and support in sales and stock control in the merchandise shop. This position is an entry-level role, and you will need experience in people skills, have good communication manners with professional appearance to promote the SANCCOB brand and live SANCCOBs core values.

Education And Awareness Functions
- Offer high quality educational tours and programmes to on-site and off-site schools/groups.
- Conduct informative and interactive onsite tours of the SANCCOB facility.
- Organise/host/represent education-oriented programmes/events which are either hosted by SANCCOB or other affiliated/partner organisations.
- Host informative online lessons with local and international audiences through various platforms.
- Ensure high quality adult education/community engagement programmes.
- Ensure information relayed in all programmes is accurate and current.
- Ensure a high level of professionalism at all times.
- Ensure that all education-related programmes are catered to the relevant target audience/age group and implemented in line with SANCCOBs objectives.
- Travel to under-resourced schools and/or vulnerable areas to engage with learners/community members and implement education and awareness programmes.
- Engage with and provide educational lessons/tours to learners and individuals who are: Disabled, chronically ill, Under-resourced, Vulnerable, or other learners/individuals with special education needs.
- Assist with the planning, implementation and hosting of educational holiday programmes.
- Manage the merchandise shop, including stock takes, daily cash ups, stock and cash control, and general sales.
- Source new eco-friendly and sustainable stock for the shop.
- Manage the online shop to ensure that orders are timeously shipped, all queries are timeously attended to, and stock movement is accurately captured in the stock system.
- Recruit, book, and host school groups, including online lessons.
- Promote, create and coordinate education donations and other income streams, as and when required.
- Coordinate logistics for programmes according to programme specifications (transport, refreshments, etc.).
- Assist with budget management.
- Prospect for new income opportunities.
- Produce monthly reports and statistics.
- Ensure that the Education and Visitor Centre is continuously neat and clean.
- Ensure safety, cleanliness and tidiness of educational apparatus and resources.
- Ensure that education materials are accurate, up-to-date, and printed professionally.
- Assist in managing inventories of the education department equipment and ensuring that systems are in place to take care of the equipment.
- Driving responsibilities relating to off-site education or activation events
- Train education interns and volunteers.
- Ensure that all assigned administrative functions are timeously completed, accurate and complete.
- Performing any other task necessary for the conduct of the employer's business, as the employer may from time to time direct.
- Professionally represent the SANCCOB brand by adhering to SANCCOBs core values.
- Matric certificate.
- Diploma or equivalent advantageous in any of the following areas: Conservation, marine science or Tourism.
- Higher Certificate will be considered with Experience in Public speaking, Education, sales and teambuilding.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, outlook and Teams).
- Advanced writing, reporting and presentation skills.
- Drivers license and own transport.
- South African citizen or valid work permit.
