In this position you will lead our Zutari Energys Power System Studies and Network Modelling team mainly within the Tshwane and Cape Town offices, where you will play an integral role in executing our business plan for this region, aligned to our Resources Business plan and Zutari Blueprint 2025.

As an expert with extensive experience in the study and detailed modelling of electricity networks and their constituent parts, the Power Systems and Network Modelling Lead is responsible for all technical leadership activities associated with Specialist Studies work.

As the Power Systems and Network Modelling Lead, experience in protection, planning/study and detailed modelling of power systems and their constituent parts. The Power Systems and Network Modelling Lead is responsible for all technical leadership activities associated with Specialist Power Systems Studies work.

People management
  • Provide the Line management responsibility for an enthusiastic team of engineers and technologists,
  • Provide ongoing technical and professional guidance to individual team members,
  • Ensure training and coaching to Zutari Energy Power Systems and Network modelling Team in line with individual and company objectives.
Consulting services
  • Engage with key technical people within client organizations to ensure Power Systems and Network Modelling services are meeting client expectations,
  • Support the completion of complex consulting projects that fall within the Power Systems and Network Modelling service offering,
  • Act as technical lead and/or reviewer for consulting engagements,
  • Manage time, scope, and budget of assigned jobs,
  • Support and enable revenue growth in the Energy Market providing specialist advice as and when requested.
Business development and sales
  • Support achievement of revenue and sales targets,
  • Identify and develop opportunities within Zutari existing and potential client base,
  • Prepare methodologies and hours estimates for service proposals,
  • Develop relationships within existing and prospective Zutari client organizations that can benefit from the specialist studies service offerings,
  • Support the identification and qualification of market trends that require specialist studies services.
The successful candidate will:
  • Support the development of Zutari skills, capabilities and service offerings aligned with market requirements through internal development and market engagement,
  • Support sustainable revenue growth, together with the other Energy service lines, to meet the Energy Market and Zutari strategic goals,
  • Support other regions in the development of regional markets and capabilities.
Minimum Requirements
  • Graduate Degree in Electrical Engineering is required with a preference for specialisation in Power Systems or Network Modelling (A post graduate qualification would be an advantage),
  • Professional accreditation or registration with the Engineering Council of South Africa or similar,
  • Experience interacting with stakeholders,
  • At least 10-15+ years of relevant experience,
  • Highly proficient user of simulation software. Commonly used network simulation software is DlgSILENT PowerFactory, PSSE, EMTDC/PSCAD, and ETAP,
  • Experience performing a range of studies including grid code compliance, power quality studies, dynamic performance studies and forensic studies, insulation coordination, protection coordination, switching studies.
