Technical Assistant: Electrical Kathu Operations (Pty)Ltd , Northern Cape
Main Responsibilities Include:
- Assist with the enforcement of HSE and Quality policies and procedures, and ensure that all HSE measures and precautions are strictly considered and taken care of during the execution of maintenance activities to avoid any activity which might lead to Health Safety and Environment incidents / non conformities.
- Take ownership of plant equipment and strive to reduce equipment downtime and ensure high Plant availability at a minimum cost.
- General work assisting the electrician including site preparation and clearance, and maintaining general site tidiness and assisting as directed by the electrician
- Assist technicians to execute day to-day maintenance activities according to CMMS notifications.
- Performing tasks as directed by the Technicians/Engineer to include assisting with installations, inspections, diagnosing faults, testing, repair and maintenance of electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus, and fixtures.
- As directed by the technician, to assist with storage, lifting, fetching supplies, unload and check deliveries and undertaking tasks to assisting technicians generally.
- Assisting to identify hazards, defects and the need for adjustment or repair; to ensure compliance with agreed codes and industry engineering standards, regulations, working practices and health and safety
- Maintaining accurate worksheets and records/documentation associated with the scope of work as pertaining to tasks and projects assigned to the electrical maintenance department.
- Assist with troubleshooting activities as necessary along with Maintenance colleagues and Operations, to determine failure causes and rectify defects found.
- Report to Engineers/Technicians all jobs carried out and record them accordingly in PM/Maximo.
- Participate in Plant scheduled shutdowns and turnarounds.
- Adhere and maintenance Engie Safety rules
- Adhere and promote occupational health and safety standards in accordance to the OHS Act of 1996
Qualifications & Experience
- Grade 12 (with maths and science)/technical studies (electrical).
- N2 Electrical Studies
- Trade Certificate for Electrical/Wireman's license/instrumentation mechanician.
- A valid driver's license.
- At least 1-2 years experience in relevant trade or post-trade test completion of an apprenticeship/leanership programme/internship.
- Low to medium voltage practical experience.
- Exposure to fundamental electrical wiring standards, equipment operation and testing.
- Understanding of electrical testing instruments and methods
- Power tools understanding and accurate usage
- Strong Electrical aptitude, basic understanding of chemistry, physics, electricity and mathematics;
- Has worked at heights, in confined spaces or with hazardous material.
- Good command of oral and written English is an advantage.
- Highly proactive and self-motivated.
- Must have good interpersonal skills.
- Must be able to think clearly and respond calmly in emergency situations;
- Must have excellent organizational skills;;
- Demonstrates skills in the use of tools, test equipment and calibration appliances;
- Working knowledge of Environmental Regulations as they pertain to the operations and maintenance of an energy generating facility.
- Ability to perform First Aid and CPR.
- Highly proactive and self-motivated, capable of handling multiple tasks;
- Team player, good interpersonal skills for subordinate development, team building and conflict resolution;
- Good knowledge of preventive and predictive maintenance principles and working procedures;
- Proficient with Microsoft software's and SAP-PM/Maximo;
- Able to write technical reports and procedures;
- Good command of oral and written English is an advantage;
- Setting clear direction and priorities and gaining support of others. Engages people and delivers plans;
- Excellent in English;
- Excellent computer literacy is required;
