Purpose of Role:

The position is responsible for the design, installation, management and maintenance of all automation, scada and control systems on all machinery and equipment on the Weir Isando site as well as Alrode site.

This include but is not limited to Foundry, Machine shop and Rubber plant.

Key Responsibilities:

• Safety First:
• Demonstrate 100% commitment to our zero harm behaviors in support of our drive towards developing a world class safety culture.

• Supervisory:
• Ensure critical spare parts availability for PLCs and automation parts by maintaining adequate stock levels.
• Setup and maintain a planned maintenance system for all PLC programmable system for production facilities Isando and Alrode.
• Ensure full compliance to the OHS act for all plant and equipment and safe work procedures for equipment controlled through programs.
• Work with support teams from OEMs.
• Scheduled inspections and servicing.

• Production:
• Repairs and maintenance to all plant and machinery within the facility confines.
• Attending to breakdowns on the plant. Assist maintenance artisans with complex fault finding.
• Ensure that all scheduled preventative maintenance is adhered to.
• Implementing fail safe/early warning detection safety systems on equipment to prevent them from damage and major down time.
• Research and plan machine upgrades and process optimization of production lines and critical machinery by implementing, wiring, programming, and commissioning PLCs, Remote IO systems, RTUs, VSDs, HMIs, on machine safety devices and control systems.
• Write and program HMI applications for operating machinery including alarming functions, early warning systems, visuals and reports from the plant floor.
• Automate and improve efficiency of machinery, plant and production lines using sound industrial automation knowledge and experience.
• Install, wire, setup and program electricity energy monitoring and data logging servers, including water and gas consumption to the server for reporting and sustainability record tracking

• Procurement:
• Complete purchasing requisitions and arrange for order placement, through Purchasing Department, of related materials and equipment relevant to maintenance requirements in conjunction with the Production Manager with the view to optimize cost and delivery.
• Emailing suppliers and sourcing quotations.

• Drawings:
• The ability to understand and interpret all engineering machine drawings in the execution of maintenance duties
• Be able to compile and draw any relevant sketches or designs necessary regarding maintenance functions

Job Knowledge/Education and Qualifications:

• Qualified Artisan C&I Mechanician, Millwright or Electrician with minimum 5 years experience. (Required)
• Advanced Diploma in Industrial Automation Engineering or similar(Desired)
• PLC programming training. (Required)
• RSLogix 5000 training. (Desired)
• Experience in virtual machine computing (VMware)
• Experience working with servers and SQL Server and databases.
• Experience in Ethernet IP networks and communications.
• Advanced knowledge and experience with variable speed drives
• Good knowledge and experience on level sensors, flow sensors, pressure sensors, temperature sensors.
• Good knowledge of machine safety devices.
• Good knowledge of cyber security and cyber security risks.
