Summary
The Telecommunications Network Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining telecommunications networks, ensuring the reliable transmission of data and communication services. This professional should have a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience and hold an NQF Level 7 qualification with ECSA registration.
Key Responsibilities
- Network Design and Planning:
- Design telecommunications networks, including fiber optic, wireless, and copper-based systems.
- Plan network architecture and capacity to meet current and future requirements.
- Network Implementation:
- Deploy and configure telecommunications network equipment, including switches, routers, and transmission devices.
- Ensure the proper installation of infrastructure, including cabling and transmission towers.
- Network Optimization:
- Continuously monitor network performance and make adjustments to optimize efficiency.
- Troubleshoot and resolve network issues to minimize downtime.
- Security and Access Control:
- Implement security measures to protect telecommunications networks from cyber threats and unauthorized access.
- Configure user access control and authentication mechanisms.
- Maintenance and Upkeep:
- Perform routine maintenance, upgrades, and patching of network equipment.
- Conduct periodic network audits and testing.
- Documentation:
- Maintain detailed records of network designs, configurations, changes, and maintenance activities.
- Prepare technical documentation for compliance and audit purposes.
- Compliance and Standards:
- Ensure that telecommunications networks adhere to industry standards and regulatory requirements.
- Stay informed about emerging technologies and best practices in telecommunications.
- Vendor and Supplier Management:
- Collaborate with vendors and suppliers to source equipment and services, negotiate contracts, and manage relationships.
- Training and Support:
- Provide training and support to end-users and operational teams.
- Assist in diagnosing and resolving network-related issues.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience as a Telecommunications Network Engineer.
- NQF Level 7 qualification in Telecommunications Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- ECSA (Engineering Council of South Africa) registration as a Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng).
- Proficiency in network design, configuration, and maintenance.
- Strong knowledge of telecommunications technologies, including fiber optics, wireless, and data transmission.
- Familiarity with cybersecurity practices for telecommunications networks.
