The Institutional Planning Department (IPD) invites applications for the position of Deputy Director and head of its Institutional Information Unit (IIU). The IIU provides research, information, and advice to support institutional strategy development, planning and decision-making. The IIU is also responsible for reporting on teaching and learning as well as statutory reporting on behalf of the institution to the national Department of Higher Education and Training.
The role of the Deputy Director and head of IIU fulfils both strategic and operational requirements.
Strategic responsibilities include: to advance the use of data analytics for teaching and learning across the University; to support the development of institutional strategy; to advise on changes in legislation, regulations, and policies as they relate to higher education to the benefit of the institution; to co-ordinate the universitys institutional research projects, especially those relating to admissions targets, teaching and learning.
Operational responsibilities include: to oversee the provision of data for institutional reports; to manage the universitys enrolment planning processes; to ensure the submission of institutional reports to the national Department of Higher Education and Training; to manage the IIU.
Requirements:
NQF 9 - Masters level qualification, ideally in a higher education context and with a quantitative bias.
10 years relevant experience within a higher education environment, 5 of which must have been at a senior management capacity.
The ability to interpret legislation, regulations, policies, and guidelines.
Strategic planning experience in a higher education context.
Experience in extracting data, reporting and developing models to inform institutional decision-making.
Strong analytical skills.
Experience with business intelligence systems implementation.
Good, working knowledge of HEMIS.
Experience in line management of staff and high performing teams.
Excellent planning, organisational and prioritisation skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Advantageous:
High-level statistical expertise.
Extensive knowledge of HEMIS, the funding framework and associated legislation.
Experience with systems implementation for improved operational processes.
Responsibilities:
Leadership support in data analytics projects (DASS, UCDG, Siyaphumelela).
Enrolment Planning Deliverables (including both DHET cyclical as well as institutional annual Enrolment Plans, Admissions Review, Over-offer target setting).
DHET Annual Performance Plan and Mid-year and Annual Report submissions.
Data provision and analysis for Senate and Council annual reports.
Provision of Departmental Indicators.
Provision of data for quality assurance reviews.
Contributing to the institutional research agenda.
Management of the Institutional Information Unit.
The annual cost of employment, including benefits (where applicable), is between R1 205 749 and R 1 375 968
