The Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Pretoria (UP) is recruiting 2 millwright / megatronic / electrician technician students for the apprenticeship programme from 1 September 2023 to 31 August 2024. UP offers this opportunity to candidates who wish to gain practical experience and exposure. This is in line with UPs Ready for Work initiative for UP graduates.
Apprentices Responsibilities
The successful candidates will be placed in the Department of Civil Engineering at UP. In general, the responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Provide technical support to research programs in the Geotechnical laboratories
- Operate research equipment in the Geotechnical laboratories (including the large geotechnical centrifuge capable of accelerating 1 ton to 150 g)
- Assist students with measurement and logging equipment in the Geotechnical laboratories
- Assist with mechanical and electronic research equipment development and manufacturing
- Assist with practicals for students
- Oversee and manage maintenance and cleaning of the Geotechnical laboratories
All successful candidates will receive training/mentorship; thus, prior work experience is not required.

- Millwright / megatronic / electrician technician students
- Languages: English (spoken and written);
- Between 18 and 35 of age.
R9 000 per month (40 hours per week)
