Responsibilities
- Continuously evaluate and identify initiatives to improve the DC and logistics processes and performance
- Reduce logistics cost
- Improve supplier and warehouse service levels (linked to scorecard)
- Supervise and coordinate activities related to receiving, storing, and despatching products
- Plans inbound and outbound volumes with Warehouse Ops Manager
- Identify and rectify problem areas within the warehouse related to receiving, storage & despatching
- Optimize layout and space utilization within the warehouse
- Calculate future warehouse capacity requirements
- Ensure capacity plans are in place for seasonal / promotional activities
- Implement MHE methodologies to optimize warehouse cube
- Oversee inventory accuracy, tracking, and regular stock reconciliations
- Develop and execute inventory optimization strategies to minimize carrying costs
- Ensure supplier key master data is updated
- Develop supplier service level agreements and monitor and report on supplier service levels
- Take corrective action against poor performing suppliers (in conjunction with Merchandise Manager)
- Resolve quality issues with suppliers
- Ensure suppliers deliver stock to the warehouse in the agreed truck configuration
- With the Warehouse Ops Manager plan and optimize the distribution network to ensure timely delivery of products to stores while minimizing transportation costs
- Optimize delivery fleet configuration
- Negotiate and manage relationships with carriers, suppliers, and third-party logistics providers
- Oversee the management of company vehicles repairs and maintenance
- Manage the warranty/guarantee/repair processes for the Warehouse and Branches
- Ensure repairs/exchanges/refunds are executed within agreed lead times (including out of guarantee repairs)
- Monitor customer communication
- Assist branches with problematic complaints
- Analyze supplier returns (measure against SLA)
- Generate, amend, and ensure compliance with all policies and procedures related to warehouse and logistics management
- Implement efficient workflows and best practices to increase productivity
- Implement new initiatives within the logistics chain
- Lead and/or participate in new business projects
- Educate key stakeholders (i.e. merchandise, finance, suppliers, and warehouse) on logistic processes for optimization
- Review, amend, and create policies and procedures related to the logistics chain
- Respond to after-hour security callouts
- Identify security needs
- Regularly monitor the effectiveness and efficiency of security measures and identify real & potential security risks and make appropriate recommendations
- Analyze data to assess performance and make informed decisions and recommendations for process improvements
- Report to management on, amongst others; stock levels, stock variances, damages, distribution, turnaround times on receiving and despatching, transport costs, fleet maintenance, repairs and returns.
- Develop, manage, and report on a budget for the logistics and warehouse department
- Oversee staff, delegate duties to them and manage their performance. Conduct bi-annual performance discussions with staff
- Handle and/or resolve any employee disciplinary and/or grievance issues
- Hold effective meetings and clearly set individual targets and levels of work required
- Assess staff training needs
- Recruit new staff members
- Ensure that all procedures are followed with new employees and manage the training of new recruits
- Tertiary qualification in logistics, supply chain management or a related field
- 7 to 10 years within logistics and/or warehouse management
- 5+ years managerial experience
- Exposure to a retail environment
- Solid knowledge of supply chain principles, practices, and processes, including inventory planning, demand forecasting, and procurement strategies, with a strong understanding of Good Warehouse Practice (GWP) requirements
- Proficiency in using warehouse and logistics management software and other relevant technology such as warehouse management systems (WMS) and transportation management systems (TMS)
- Computer literate, with advanced level of knowledge and application of Excel
- Experience in project management
- Experience in warehouse management and planning systems
- Experience in process analysis and management
- Understanding of financial reporting
- Knowledge of health and safety regulations
- Experience in contract management
- Fluent in both English and Afrikaans
- Drivers licence
- Salary: R580K/yr - R750K/yr, salary negotiable
