Howden Africa Compressor & Turbine Division is looking for a Workshop Manager to manage and lead a team of people in allocating workload and managing the day to day operations in the workshop. It requires the job holder to coordinate resources and liaise with internal and external key contacts to ensure work is delivered on time and to a quality standard. The position will be based in Sasolburg.
What needs to be done?
- Be able to read wiring diagrams, drawings and be familiar with Compressors and turbines
- Responsible for job allocation and job flow in the workshop including job scheduling and labour allocation for day to day operations.
- Assist with quoting, project management, materials purchasing and quality checks.
- Regularly report progress on each job and communicate delays or concerns with the GM and report on manpower overruns or shortfalls.
- Act as a technical adviser on key projects and other areas of the business as requested.
- Identify clients needs and explain/demonstrate Howden services to them, which may involve technical descriptions of products and the way they may be used.
- Receive and review feedback from customers and follow up to ensure customer satisfaction and keep the communication channels open to ensure information is accurate.
- Promote a Health and Safety culture
- Responsible for the implementation of 5S and other HSEQ standards within the business.
- Plan and organise Preventive Maintenance System (PMS) and
- Setting and discussing Performance objectives and Development Plans
- Adhere to Sarbanes Oxley controls
- Qualified Artisan preferably Fitter & Turner/ Fitter /Welder or equivalent.
- Engineering Qualification (N6 or Diploma/Degree).
- At least 5 years hands-on experience as a Workshop Manager.
- Ability to work with people at various levels from shop floor to senior management.
- Ability to identify other business opportunities from initial customer inquiry.
- Project management experience
- People management skills
- Computer literacy with MS Office Suite.
- Quality and productivity focused with a firm commitment to customer service excellence in all circumstances
- CAD drawing skills are an advantage
