About The Role
The Financial Accountant will manage accounts payable and assist with book-keeping activities. The role is crucial for creating accurate and timely financial information and ensuring strict adherence to accounting principles, procedures, and legislation. The Financial Accountant will work closely with the Accounting Manager and Group Reporting Specialist to support the accuracy and completeness of the company's financial records.
What You Will Be Doing
- Ensure accurate and timely processing of transactions within Accounts Payable.
- Management and control of the Fixed Assets Register from an operational and accounting perspective.
- Manage and plan vendor and employee reimbursement payment cycles whilst coordinating with the Assistant Account to reduce the risk of duplicate payments.
- Oversight of payment procedures for all group entities ensuring appropriate cash management at all times.
- Review and approval of invoices during processing ensuring company and legislative requirements have been met.
- Apply relevant principles to accurately record, adjust and reconcile financial transactions while maintaining an appropriate audit trail and supporting documentation according to professional financial accounting and reporting standards.
- Work closely with the I.T. Team to ensure procedures around purchasing and disposal of company assets are adhered to.
- Assist the Accounting Manager in the preparation of VAT returns.
- Maintaining accurate and timely reconciliations and schedules to support reported Balance Sheet and Income Statement balances.
- Ensure strict adherence to established accounting policies, principles and procedures and recommend improvements where necessary.
- Monitor and analyse accounting data, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the organisation's financial records.
- Support the day-to-day financial accounting processes and provide guidance to the Assistant Accountant in accurately recording transactions.
- Ensure integrity and accuracy of the ERP System (Oracle NetSuite), statements, and reports.
- Ensure all month-end and year-end accounting processes are executed timeously and accurately.
- Liaise with external auditors ensuring that supporting documentation is provided in a timeous manner and according to professional financial accounting and reporting standards.
- Preparing reports, calculations and supporting schedules in support of annual financial statement balances and notes.
- Provide support in respect of any ad-hoc activities, requests or finance transformation projects as required by the business.
- Respond to and solve queries from departments within the company regarding financial activity.
- Provide weekly and/or monthly expense estimates for cash flow purposes when required.
- A Bachelor's degree in Accounting + CIMA / CIPA / SAIPA
- 3+ years Financial Accountant in an operational finance role
- In-depth knowledge of bookkeeping and accounting principles, practices, standards, laws, and regulations
- Ability to adjust, evolve, and thrive in response to the rapidly changing fintech landscape.
- Advanced Excel, Google Suite and ERP (Oracle, SAP or NetSuite) skills, with a solid ability to adapt to new technologies and systems.
- Attention to detail and timely delivery of reliable financial management information for decision-making
- Ability to articulate and demonstrate process and system design during finance transformation projects
- Financial Reporting Accuracy: Measure the accuracy and completeness of financial statements and reports produced by the company, using metrics such as the number of material errors or adjustments identified in audits.
- Timeliness of Month-end and Year-end Close: Effectively and efficiently meeting reporting deadlines for month-end and year-end close.
- Expense Recognition Accuracy: Ensuring the accuracy and completeness of expenses being recognised from various sources on time leading up to the month-end and year-end close timelines.
- Accounts Payable Efficiency: Ability to meet payment cycle timelines whilst ensuring the vendor age analysis is monitored.
- Vendor Bills Process Efficiency: Efficiently drive the approval of vendor bills to reduce processing times ensuring as up-to-date transactional information is accounted for.
- Completeness of Transactions from Automated Platforms into the ERP System: Assess the level of completeness of transactions captured in external platforms and transmitted into the ERP System.
- Operational and Regulatory Compliance: Measure the effectiveness of internal policies and procedures in ensuring internal and external compliance with regulations and recognised bodies.
- Business Process Improvement: Measure the impact of the ERP system on streamlining financial processes, reducing manual work, and improving overall operational efficiency.
- Centralised and Accessible Documentation: Maintaining organised and easily accessible financial records and documentation.
